Jack Schlossberg Steps Out With Mom Caroline Kennedy As His Political Campaign Gains Family Support

Jack Schlossberg brought a family-centered moment to his campaign for New York’s 12th Congressional District with a rare public photo alongside his mother, Caroline Kennedy. The image, shared on Instagram, showed Jack with his arm around Caroline outside Barney Greengrass, the landmark Upper West Side deli, on May 3, 2026. He held a bottle of orange juice and a bag of bagels, giving the political stop a distinctly New York feel and placing the campaign in one of the neighborhoods central to the district.

Jack, the only grandson of President John F. Kennedy and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, is seeking the Democratic nomination for the Manhattan-based seat held by Rep. Jerrold Nadler. Nadler announced in 2025 that he would not seek reelection in 2026, opening a closely watched race in a heavily Democratic district. Jack was born and raised in New York’s 12th District and is running to represent the place where his family has lived for generations. The district includes major parts of Manhattan, including the Upper West Side and Upper East Side.

The campaign also carries personal weight for the Kennedy-Schlossberg family. Jack’s sister, Tatiana Schlossberg, an environmental journalist and author, died on Dec. 30, 2025, at age 35 after being diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia. In a New Yorker essay published on Nov. 22, 2025, she wrote about the diagnosis and its effect on her family. Against that backdrop, Caroline’s public appearance with Jack reads as both a political endorsement and a personal show of support.

Caroline has long balanced public service with a careful private life, making her appearance with Jack especially meaningful. A former U.S. ambassador to Japan and Australia, Caroline has also become one of her son’s most visible supporters as he enters electoral politics for the first time.

During a March 2026 interview on “CBS News Sunday Morning,” Caroline and her husband, Edwin Schlossberg, endorsed Jack’s congressional bid. Asked whom she supported, Caroline replied:

“Jack for New York 12. Believe in something again.” Edwin added, “Yes, Jack. My son.”

Caroline praised her son’s willingness to speak plainly and take risks.

“He’s willing to take the consequences of what people think,” she said. “And we need people who can reach a new generation. We’re not doing it with just boring talking points.”

She also described him as an unconventional candidate in a race that includes more experienced political figures. “Well, I really trust Jack. I trust his judgment,” Caroline said.

“Some of the other people have been preparing for this for years and years, but he came to this new. I mean, he’s the outsider in this race, actually. And I think, you know, people might laugh when they hear that, but it’s actually true.”

Jack’s profile combines a famous political lineage with a modern media style. Before launching his House campaign, he became known for sharp political commentary and a lively social media presence. His campaign now asks voters to consider him not simply as a Kennedy descendant, but as a New Yorker seeking to connect with a new generation of Democrats. The Barney Greengrass photo captured that blend clearly: political legacy, family loyalty, and a street-level pitch to Manhattan voters.
