The generous donation will be going to the Anne Rowling Regenerative Neurology Clinic, a facility named after Rowling’s late mother who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. The clinic focuses on MS and other neurological conditions with the main purpose being to bring more clinical trials to those who are affected.

“When the Anne Rowling Clinic was first founded, none of us could have predicted the incredible progress that would be made in the field of Regenerative Neurology, with the Clinic leading the charge,” Rowling said to the BBC.

The clinic was initially founded in 2010 also with an initial donation from Rowling. The additional funds will continue the care-taking and research work that is already in place, and will fund new buildings for the site according to The Independent.

The clinic’s director, Professor Siddharthan Chandran expressed the gratitude from the university.

"Our research is shaped by listening to, and involving, individuals who are living with these tough conditions,” he said to the BBC. “This incredibly far-sighted and generous donation will unlock the potential of personalised medicine for people with MS in Scotland and further afield."

J.K. Rowling is known for her generosity and hefty donations to various causes. She became rich thanks to the spectacular success of Harry Potter, but dropped off the Forbes billionaire list due in part to her considerable charity giving, The Huffington Post reports.
