It’s Okay To Be Satisfied With A Quiet Life

Sometimes we get so busy and the world gets so loud that we can forget what our own voice even sounds like. Everything else around you drowns out the simplicity of who you are.

The world today is all about staying busy. Everyone seems to strive to be the busiest. All this leads to missing out on the things that really matter in life. We are so busy taking care of needs and wants that we forget to live our lives and that’s really a sad thing.

The truth is that the busier we feel, the more productive we feel but this isn’t good for the soul by any means. Your life will be much more meaningful with fewer events on your calendar. Finding the key to living a simple live is being able to live your life intentionally. This means “marking” your calendar for some quite time. Without time for peace, you can’t appreciate when magic does happens.

The danger of comparing yourself to others

What is the one thing that you gain when you compare yourself to someone else? Envy. And, this is not a quality that you want to possess. When you compare yourself to someone else, you only end up wanting to add more to your own life. For example, Bob has a nicer house, makes more money, and owns a more expensive car. Because you see what Bob has, you now want the same thing, or maybe even something better. This is the “keeping up with the Joneses” complex. And if you fall victim to this, it doesn’t allow you to live your life as you want.

Now you compare yourself to them constantly even when you’re not actively thinking about it. You take your worst scenario and compare it to their best. This is not a good way to be setting up your life. Let’s take a look at living like a minimalist. One of the main things you need to consider is whether you are living your life intentionally or not. Do you give thought to your actions and schedules or do you just let life happen?

You need to find time for you. You need to meditate and have time alone. You need to take a good, deep look at your life and examine when and where your time is spent. This can determine who you are and who you are becoming. One of the biggest things you need to stop doing is comparing your life to others and just start living your own life. Have you ever had issues with your phone or computer before? I’m sure most of us have. What’s the first thing you are told to try? Turn it off and back on again. This is true for most all things, including yourself.

FOMO, the fear of missing out, seems to be sweeping the world these days. We fear this so much that we are signing up for everything and attending every event or sport. This is because we think that happiness is found in all of those things. This is partially true. We do find happiness in things that we like but when there is too much going on, life begins to be a chore. Without time to be alone and unplug, you may lose yourself and your inner happiness. This time is needed in order to function as a happy individual.

When you are alone, you can think more clearly. In this time, you are able to breathe on a deeper level, you hear better and see more clearly than ever. This allows you to return to a time to what is sacred for you. Find this time for you and reclaim this part of who you are. Your happiness may change to a level you didn’t think was possible.

Everyone is important in your life and you can still make time for them but if you don’t make time for yourself you may live life unhappily ever after. “I want to be true to who I am. I want a simple life. I want to connect with others and truly care about them. I want to be done with being consumed with life.” This sounds amazing to me. This is something I desire as well. Is this the kind of life you want?

Becoming a minimalist doesn’t have to be extreme. You don’t have to live in a tiny house and get rid of all your belongings. You do need to think about what makes you happy in your life and weed out the things that don’t. This can be very freeing. You can stop worrying about fear, worry, guilt, and being overwhelmed. You may no longer be depressed or feel trapped. You may find true freedom again! Have you ever heard “How we spend our days is how we spend our lives.”? This is a statement that Annie Dillard made and it couldn’t be any truer.

This is why we must make a decision to live with intention. This is why making quiet time for one’s self is very important. Experiencing life quietly. You may feel a little selfish when it comes to making time for yourself but, you shouldn’t. This is a time when you push the world to the side and find the magic that was once in your life. Make this tiny change and your life will be impacted in a huge way. Little steps are benefited with huge rewards. This is your time.

Turn everything off. Put it out of site. Don’t open anything, and especially don’t look at anything. If something or someone calls, don’t answer. Try it. It’s time to make yourself a priority. Love yourself again. Even if it’s just one time a day, you deserve every single second of it. You’re not going to regret it. You’ll see a change you didn’t think was possible.
