As Italy continues to be under lockdown in an effort to contain the Coronavirus, civilians are finding ways to bring a little fun to a gloomy situation.
Over the weekend, many videos have emerged showing Italians come out to their balconies and windows to sing songs with one another.
Last week, a video started making rounds on the internet that showed Italians in the city of Sienna coming out onto their balconies and breaking into traditional songs. The video, which was uploaded by a local on Thursday evening, showed neighbors in the city of Siena lean out of their windows to sing an Italian song.
The song is titled Canto della Verbena (While Siena Sleeps), and is a traditional song in the locality which inhabitants sing to express pride for their city.

Since then, many have taken to Twitter to upload videos of Italians under quarantine coming together to sing during these trying times.
Leonardo Carella, who is an Italian Ph.D. candidate based in the UK, started a thread on Twitter where he uploads videos from various Italian cities showing inhabitants singing together. The thread begins with a video of Italians in Salerno.
“Italians in lockdown all over Italy are keeping each other company by singing, dancing and playing music from the balconies,” the video is captioned. “A thread to celebrate the resilience of ordinary people. This is Salerno:”
The thread then continues with other videos from cities across the Italian nation.
In Turin, people mixed things up a bit by singing the Macarena.
Here is Naples:
Benevento also got a shoutout:
The Italian Airforce is also doing its part in boosting morale:
In an attempt to lift up the nation, the Italian airforce is also using music. With Pavarotti’s Nessun Dorma playing in the background, 9 planes let out colored exumes to create the Italian flag in the sky. The planes are shown overtaking one single plane, which presumably symbolizes the deadly Coronavirus.
