75 years ago, San Diego native Tom Rice jumped from a plane at the D-Day invasion in Normandy. On Wednesday, at 97-years-old, he did it again.
On that historic day in 1944, Rice joined thousands of other soldiers in the largest seaborne invasion in human history, reports WBUR. The allied troops were up against heavy fire, bombings, and the forces of nature, but they were able to successfully turn around the war in their favor in the end.

There were commemorative events on Wednesday in France to acknowledge the massive feats of that day and the people who were involved. Tom joined 200 other parachuters in a jump over a Normandy town reports Time. Carentan was the site of a key WWII battle, according to the town's website, and that's where they recreated the jump.
Tom jumped from a C-47 airplane with a tandem partner, and as he floated through the air an American flag unfurled. It seemed to be second nature for him, “I feel great,” and he told the AP, “I’d go up and do it all again.”
