Irwin Family Opens Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital’s Doors To Treat Over 90,000 Animals During Bushfire Emergency

Australia has been facing an unprecedented national crisis with bushfires devastating rural communities across the country. 

And as residents of the threatened communities are forced to abandon their homes, many animals are too feeling the effects of the deadly fires, with more than 500 million animals estimated to have perished so far. As zoos and local charities scramble in an attempt to treat the effected wildlife, Bindi Irwin has revealed that the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital, which is owned by her family, has opened its doors and has so far treated an estimated 90 000 animals. 

Bindi Irwin, 21, announced that the hospital is treating effected animals through her official Instagram account. 

“With so many devastating fires within Australia, my heart breaks for the people and wildlife who have lost so much. I wanted to let you know that we are SAFE. There are no fires near us @AustraliaZoo or our conservation properties,” she wrote. “Our Wildlife Hospital is busier than ever though, having officially treated over 90,000 patients. My parents dedicated our Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital to my beautiful grandmother. We will continue to honour her by being Wildlife Warriors and saving as many lives as we can.”

The news comes just days after a video emerged showing dozens of kangaroos running from fires ripping through New South Wales. 

Mitchell Lyons, the person who took the video told the Mirror: “Look, they don't know which way to run from cars, but they sure know which way to run from fire." 

Lyons also revealed the closest fire to where the video was taken was roughly 6 miles away, so the kangaroos were likely coming out of the buses to ‘stop for a drink’.

The Australian bushfires have been ravaging the southeast coast since December, and have so far displaced many from their homes. Fifteen people have been reported to have lost their lives with many more missing. 

According to news.com.au, the fires have claimed the lived of over 500 million wild animals in the area, with Koalas likely to have taken the biggest hit.
