To many of us, our house is more than just a place where we store our belongings and go to bed in the evening. It is our sanctuary; the place we go for comfort and to relax after our busy day-to-day. Can you imagine what it would be like to come back one day and have it all been destroyed?

For one Iowa couple, this was almost the reality. Their home could have burned to the ground on July 4th, 2020, had it not been for the actions of one good Samaritan. Like many superheroes, this man didn’t want credit for his good deeds. Those he helped were determined to find him.

A Disaster Looms

The July 4th weekend sends many folks out of town. Since so many have long weekends, it is a great time to get out and enjoy some rest and relaxation. Carolyn Ware and her husband had plans to get out of their hometown of Grimes, Iowa for the weekend and expected to have a fun time enjoying the holiday. Little did they know that an awful situation was just about to occur.

While the Wares were on their little mini-vacation, they received a notification from their "Ring Doorbell" camera. The alert showed an unknown man pressing their doorbell and knocking on their door in a frenzied manner. Something was clearly not right. As it turns out, the Wares' home had caught fire and the man was trying to stir anyone inside.

The Kindness of Strangers

It turns out that this man was not a neighbor or friend of the Ware family. He was simply out driving home with his wife after viewing some fireworks when he saw a home on fire. The gentleman stopped his car and rushed to the home to see if anyone was still inside. He rang the doorbell, inadvertently sending the alert to the Ware family, and knocked, hoping to wake up anyone in the home.

Little did he know that all his actions were being recorded. When no one answered the doorbell or the knocks, the man contacted first responders to let them know about the fire. He stayed there until they showed up. Because of the man's quick response and phone calls, first responders were able to save the house from being burned down.

Finding the Hero

Naturally, Carolyn Ware and her husband were very thankful that their home was not destroyed. They were also quite grateful that this unknown man took the time to stop and make the call that saved their home. They wanted to thank him and let him know how much they appreciated his actions. Unfortunately, no one at the scene had caught his name. Local media caught wind of the family in search of the hero who saved their home and ran a story on the incident.

As it turns out, the hero's wife saw the story, and, 24-hours after the story aired on television, the identity of this person was revealed. The Ware family hopes to meet up with this good Samaritan and express their appreciation. This story proves that despite the difficult times we are currently facing, there are many good people in the world. It shows that people are still willing to do the kind and helpful thing when faced with a choice.
