Introducing Chris Stapleton’s Singer-Songwriter Wife Morgane & Their Family of Seven

Country music star Chris Stapleton has long shared the spotlight with someone just as influential behind the scenes: his wife, Morgane Stapleton. Married on Oct. 27, 2007, the couple built both a creative partnership and a blended family, including their five children.

Born Jan. 25, 1983, Morgane grew up in Tennessee, performing with her sister Melissa before signing with Arista Nashville under her maiden name, Morgane Hayes. Although she recorded several albums, she admitted to The New York Times that she struggled with being in the spotlight, saying, “It’s not for everybody.” Instead, she found fulfillment writing songs and supporting other artists from behind the scenes.

Chris and Morgane first met in 2003, when both were writing songs in neighboring Nashville buildings. Morgane later told The Washington Post that she would sit in a friend’s office waiting to hear “the jingle of his keys,” knowing Chris was coming down the hall with new music. 

When Chris asked her to co-write, she suggested meeting at 6 p.m. on a Friday—a session that quickly turned into their first unofficial date. As she joked, “We didn’t get much writing done that night.”

Her partnership with Chris became central to his musical evolution. She performs background and harmony vocals in his band, contributes to his songwriting, and regularly offers creative input. Producer Dave Cobb called her an essential “litmus test” in shaping Chris’s sound.

Over the years, the couple welcomed five children—four sons and one daughter — while making a deliberate effort to protect their privacy. Chris explained to The Boot that he shields them from fame because “my children did not sign up for this.” Still, his deep gratitude for Morgane and their family often appears during award speeches, where he affectionately calls her his “rock.”

Morgane’s musical talent has been woven into many of Chris’s biggest moments. Her influence helped shape his 2015 breakthrough album “Traveller,” including the fan-favorite “Fire Away.” She championed the early demo, insisting he include the song. “It’s a very honest song,” she said. Chris later acknowledged that it became one of his favorite tracks to perform. The couple’s duet “You Are My Sunshine,” recorded for the 2017 album Southern Family, further cemented their artistic bond. The song also holds personal meaning: Morgane secretly engraved the title inside Chris’s wedding ring before their 2007 ceremony.

Their growing family added new chapters to their story. Their first son, Waylon, arrived in 2009, followed by their daughter Ada around 2010. In 2018, they welcomed twin boys, Macon and Samuel, and in 2019, they had another son whose name they have chosen not to share publicly. While protective of their children, Chris and Morgane occasionally bring them to major events—most memorably when Waylon and Ada attended the ACM Awards in 2022.

The family resides in Leiper’s Fork, Tennessee, where Chris and Morgane purchased over 300 acres in 2017. Morgane later opened Tennessee Turquoise Co., a jewelry store in the heart of the village. Beyond music and family, the couple shares a commitment to philanthropy. In 2016, they co-founded Outlaw State of Kind, a charitable fund supporting disaster relief and causes close to their hearts. 

The organization helped raise $2.9 million during the Kentucky Rising benefit in 2022 and contributed $1 million each toward wildfire recovery in Los Angeles and flood relief in Texas in 2025. Together, Chris and Morgane Stapleton embody a partnership built on creativity, authenticity, and unwavering support—both onstage and at home.
