Interstate 81 Diner Reopens Because Travelers Show Up To Try Famed Elvis Burger

Last month, the Pink Cadillac Diner at Interstate 81 reopened after closing indefinitely as travelers show up to try the diner's famed Elvis burger.

Take a minute and think about your all-time favorite meal. How far would you go to eat it? What would you do if you found out that it was no longer on the menu, or worse, that the restaurant that served it was closed. These are the questions that faced Gene Anderson and his friend.

In Natural Bridge, Virginia, there is a burger place like none other. This Rockbridge County staple is famous among locals and visitors alike — their food is just that good. The Pink Cadillac Diner is nestled along a corridor of Interstate 81, and it draws people from around the country. Well, its 'Elvis Burger' calls to visitors and locals, alike. If you have tried it once, you cannot help but go back for another one.

You can imagine the shock and horror when Gene Anderson embarked on a cross-country journey for the Elvis Burger and found that the Pink Cadillac Diner's owner had decided to close their doors for diners. According to WSLS 10 News, they literally drove across Interstate 81 for this famed dish.

You might be wondering what this Elvis Burger actually is. Does it live up to the hype? It must; it is the Pink Cadillac Diner's go-to dish. This half-pound double burger is marinated in the Pink Cadillac's super-secret sauce and topped with a juicy tomato and crisp piece of lettuce. If the description alone doesn't have your mouth watering, a single sniff would have you ordering one, if not more.

WSLS 10 News said that according to a Facebook post, the Pink Cadillac Diner's owner made the decision to close the restaurant without any warning on a Wednesday. Essentially, Torrence felt as if he wouldn't be able to run the restaurant again after feeling burned out. He had no plans of reopening it.

When Anderson arrived at the restaurant, he told WSLS 10 News in an interview that he didn't expect it to be closed. He saw the Facebook post, but he didn't want to believe it. Instead, he met the owner at the front of the restaurant.

Anderson explained his persistence in figuring out a way to get Torrence to open the Pink Cadillac Diner to the public once more; after all, there is nothing quite like knowing someone is making money for an excellent product that only they can create.

Torrence decided to go ahead and make two Elvis burgers for the traveling duo. He had never intended to open back the dinner or even make another burger again, for that matter.

He went for it anyway, as fate would have it. It turns out, making a burger for Anderson and his friend was enough of a pick me up to convince Torrence to open his restaurant back up.

Anderson and his friend made the decision to literally drive across the country for this burger, and they want to spread the joy of this burger. Typically, Anderson tries to eat pretty well, living on a diet consisting largely of fruits and vegetables.

Every now and then, though, he gets a craving. And in this case, he needed that Elvis Burger. There is no standing between a man and the food he is craving.

If you know a friend who needs a pick me up today, send this story their way. Like Anderson did for Torrence, it might just turn their entire day around!
