Inspiring Mother Stuns Audience After Singing Celine Dion’s Hit In A Golden Buzzer Moment

Most people, when they reach a certain age, think that they are too old already to reach a dream that they have been holding on to since they were young. While many would say to reach those dreams, no matter how outlandish that may sound, some people just could not find the confidence to pursue them.

For Jeanick Fournier, a palliative care beneficiary attendant from Chicoutimi, Quebec, in Canada, no dreams are too big, and no hopes are too small for a woman like her. The 49-year-old mother of 2 came to audition for the second season of "Canada's Got Talent" last April 2022.

During the interviews prior to her audition, she revealed that she had been singing since she was seven years old in the church, surrounded by nuns. Growing up, Fournier only had two audiences with her hairbrush as a makeshift microphone – her mother and her father, using their living room couch as her stage. She attributes her influences to Barbra Streisand, Whitney Houston, Lara Fabian, and Celine Dion.

Aside from being an aspiring singer, Fournier is also a mother of two – Yuan and Emma, whom she both adopted, knowing that they had down syndrome. Turns out, it was her children's love that fueled Fournier "to stay in the moment," prompting her to finally take a leap of faith and pursue her life-long dream of becoming a singer.

"For me to be here, it's a big gift. If I win, it's an opportunity for me to give a better life for my children," Fournier said before hitting the stage.

Judges Howie Mandel, Kardinal Offishall, Trish Stratus, and Lilly Singh were all present on the bench, ready to hear Fournier – not knowing that they would encounter a huge ball brimming with talent, power, and optimism.

Fournier's song of choice entirely channels the fearlessness and confidence she radiates as she takes on the stage. Singing perhaps one of Dion's most difficult songs to date, Fournier effortlessly belted out "I Surrender," showcasing a massive display of her vocal technique, stamina, and passion while she hymned the timeless hit.

Just before the first chorus kicked in, host Lindsay Ell was already taken aback, and so was everyone in the audience. All four judges were cheering and visibly shocked by Fournier's performance, which is why they could not help but give her a standing ovation after her number.

Fournier was shaking after her performance, shocked by the reception of the judges and the audience in the building. Mandel was amazed by Fournier, noting that she sang like an "angel" and she was "out of this world."

Moments after, Ell took the stage, a thing that she does not usually do, hugging a moved Fournier. She then made her way to the judges' bench, where she expressed her happiness on seeing Fournier perform.

"I think you made all of Canada smile tonight, and Jeanick, I choose you!" Ell said before slamming the golden buzzer, sending Fournier straight to the Finals.

Later on that season, Fournier went head to head with other finalists, including Canadian singer-songwriter Kellie Loder, stand-up comedian Courtney Gilmour, dance group The Renegades, and magician Savio Joseph, among many others.

In the end, it was Fournier who won the second season of Canada's Got Talent. After winning the competition, she debuted at No. 13 on the Canadian Albums Chart with her self-titled debut album released via Universal Music Canada.

Last November 2022, Fournier was confirmed to be a part of "America's Got Talent: All-Stars" in 2023.
