Insider Reveals "Nothing Is An Accident" When Discussing Decisions Behind Queen Elizabeth’s Iconic Wardrobe

At 94 years old, Queen Elizabeth remains a fashion icon when it comes to her colorful ensembles—and she has her Royal dressers to thank for that.

Even when she has to change her outfit five times in a single day, every last detail—from the shoes to her purse to the accessories—is articularly and deliberately planned out by her team of stylists. And when planning out her Majesty’s outfits, there is one key rule they follow at all times: to uphold a perfect balance of grace and majesty, all while giving a nod to the engagement she is attending. This is all brought together by one woman: Angela Kelly, who has been in charge of dressing the Queen for more than 25 years.

As a result of their long working relationship, Kelly and Queen Elizabeth have become close. According to Forbes, the stylist even wears the Queen’s shoes to break into them, in an effort to alleviate any potential pains.

“The Queen has very little time to herself and not time to wear in her own shoes, and as we share the same shoe size it makes the most sense this way,” Kelly revealed.

Kelly, or “Madame Image” as she’s been dubbed, is responsible for dressing the Queen when she poses for official portraits as well as major Royal events. The two choose fabrics, silks, and accessories together, with which Kelly then plans out several potential outfits for each event – many months in advance.

According to Sali Hughes, a UK-based journalist who has been following the Queen’s fashion choices closely, her bold, color-coordinated outfits are no accident.

“The Queen tends to always wear one color because she feels that if people are queuing for many hours just to see her, the courtesy she should show them is [to] make it so they can see her,” Hughes told Good Morning America last year.

And thus, thanks to her bunt ensembles, those people will be able to easily pick her out in a crowd an say that they have seen the Queen.

Hughs also highlighted the discrete efforts Kelly makes to have the Queen’s outfits subtly match the event she is attending, both diplomatically and culturally.

“So much thought goes into it and nothing is an accident,” she said.

“If anyone thinks they’re overthinking the queen’s fashion, they’re not, because they would never be able to think about more than the queen and Angela Kelly.”
