Sometimes those relationships that start off slowly turn out to be the ones that last forever. With patience and time, a pair can really cultivate something very substantial together. It seems that happened in the case of actress Portia De Rossi and talk-show host Ellen DeGeneres.

Portia told the Advocate that the couple met socially in the year 2000 but nothing happened until they met again after VH1’s Big in ’04 awards show. In another interview with Oprah, Portia revealed the reasons why the relationship got off to a slow start

She told Oprah that it was her struggle with her sexuality that created such a gap. She revealed, “I was closeted and very, very afraid that if I talked about being gay, it would be the end of my career, so I wasn't about to date the most famous lesbian in the world."

Then after several years of dating, the California Supreme Court legalized gay marriage and they decided to wed in 2008. Oprah aired a beautiful glimpse into their intimate ceremony and Ellen described the significance of their official marriage.

“Anybody that’s married knows there’s a difference. It feels like you’re home,” Ellen said. “There’s an anchor. There’s a safety. I’m gonna be with her until the day I die and I know that.”

In 2018 on their 10th wedding anniversary, Ellen posted a throwback on her Instagram with a quote from their wedding officiant, philosopher Wayne Dyer. 2018 also marked a significant milestone for Ellen, it was her 60th birthday. To celebrate, Portia gave her a stunning birthday present on “The Ellen Show.” She gifted her with “The Ellen DeGeneres Campus of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund”, and Ellen responded with gratitude saying, “She understands me because that is the best gift that anybody could have given me.”

Portia De Rossi also addressed another somewhat strange milestone for a celebrity couple: Divorce rumors. In an interview with Us Weekly, she was thankful that same-sex marriage had come such a long way.

“The divorce rumors came, and then we really knew the perceptions had changed,” she said. “I’m not kidding. I know it sounds ridiculous, but when that started happening, I thought, ‘Oh, now we’re finally accepted.’”

But break up rumors remain rumors. Today, the pair are still together and sharing smiles and love in their long-lasting relationship. They are such a cute couple and it’s fantastic that they share their light with the world.
