Fred Rogers is best known for his nickname, "Mister Rogers," a title given to him as the host of the show, Mister Rogers' Neighborhood. While his show certainly gained a lot of positive attention, most people know Fred Rogers due to his beautiful love story with Joanne.

No matter what obstacles came their way, the couple persevered and overcame them throughout the span of their 50-year marriage.

He wanted to switch his major to music, but he had to visit the college to make sure it was the right choice. Joanne had heard about Fred's visit and decided to welcome him at the airport with a group of friends.

Fred felt drawn to her and thus, their story began. Fred transferred to Rollins College and the two began dating during their time there. Their relationship began as a pure friendship but soon escalated into something much more unique.

However, the relationship did not bloom right away. Due to Fred's transfer, he was a few credits behind Joanne and was put a class behind her. Joanne graduated first and moved to Florida for her graduate school studies. Fred began dating again, but he still kept in touch with Joanne through letters.

Joanne came back to attend Fred's graduation and this was truly the moment when their love blossomed. A few years later, Fred proposed to Joanne and they were married a month later. They relocated to New York City and Fred began working for NBC. The couple welcomed two sons into their small family about nine years later.

Joanne claims that their marriage was successful because they waited so long before welcoming children into their family. They also never fought and attempted to calmly work out any problems in their marriage. Of course, while this may seem perfect, it is actually very unhealthy to never fight in a marriage.

Joanne also admitted that she felt as though she was always in Fred's shadows. She did not have the freedom to pursue what she desired because it could impact Fred's new career.

She continued to stay this way even after Fred's untimely demise in 2003. Fred had been battling stomach cancer until he finally succumbed to it at age 74. Fred became a known figure in the world of Hollywood, while Joanne was mostly known for being the subject of his affections. He also gained fame for a few love quotes during his marriage.

Fred's career began at a community station in Pittsburgh, however, his career did not kick off until 1954. It was with The Children's Corner, that Fred became a loved TV host until the end of his time.
