Injured Kitten Is Rescued From The Streets Of California And Befriends Little Dog

Last fall, a woman in California found an injured stray kitten that was wandering streets all by itself. She wound up finding a new friend for herself and her dog and taking that friend across the country to their new home.

Yesenia DelaCueva was driving home when she saw what appeared to be a white T-shirt in the street. Curious, she pulled over to investigate – and heard a faint meow. The “T-shirt” was actually a white kitten. It was plainly injured, as it was dragging one foot and moving slowly. Despite its condition, the little animal showed no fear of Yesenia when she came closer. Yesenia picked the kitten up, wrapped her in a blanket, and took her home.

In addition to having an injured leg, the kitten had a lot of fleas. Yesenia, therefore, bathed her after reaching home. She also fed the kitten, which then went to sleep.

Yesenia had never had a cat before and knew nothing about them. She, therefore, visited a Facebook page to seek advice. Yesenia faced another dilemma: She was moving to the East Coast in the near future and wasn’t sure if she could take the kitten along. So, she began looking for a family that would adopt the kitten.

Yesenia visited a local animal shelter the next day – only to learn that they did not have enough space or resources to help the kitten. They also did not know of anybody else who could help.

Despite her reluctance to get attached to the kitten, Yesenia found herself falling in love with her anyway. She decided to keep the kitten and named her Bella. During a visit to the vet, Yesenia told the vet about her impending move and asked them to help her get the kitten ready for an airplane trip.

Yesenia also introduced Bella to Buster, a Chihuahua. Far from being frightened, Bella immediately took to the dog and began following him around. She would also playfully pounce on his tail. Bella really wanted Buster to be her new playmate and friend.

Yesenia gradually prepared herself and her pets for the move to Rhode Island. Bella handled the plane ride very well; Yesenia later speculated that the kitten understood that she was safe. The family has since settled in Rhode Island and Bella and Buster now spend their days playing and warming Yesenia’s lap together. They also curl up in bed together.
