Influencer Mom Assures ‘Love Island’ Star Molly-Mae Hague Naming Child After Cartoon Character Is Not An Issue

In January 2023, fans were thrilled to learn that former “Love Island” contestant, entrepreneur and social media influencer Molly-Mae Hague had given birth. This, after all, was a personality who had her child with another contestant on the show, the boxer Tommy Fury. The bud of their burgeoning romance was watched by millions and will live on in the minds of viewers via streaming sites and YouTube clips for as long as the internet exists. However, that thrill was slowly dampened by reports of Hague’s decision to name her child Bambi.
Scorn poured in quickly and harshly, so much so Hague was forced to disable comments to her seven million followers on her Instagram post revealing her baby name choice. “Does Molly-Mae not know what happened to Bambi’s mum,” one disheartening tweet read, followed by many who lambasted the choice by referencing the Disney film of the same name.
Cartoons aside, the name Bambi originates from the Italian “bambino” and “bambina,” which translates into baby boy and baby girl, respectively.
However, in the wake of #BambiGate, many sympathetic moms have come out in support of Hague’s choice. Among them was Indy Clinton, a social media influencer and blogger, based in Sydney, Australia, who had also named her daughter Bambi.
The 25-year-old mother of two told Daily Mail she “couldn't believe the coincidence” and that “Bambi is going to fit right in with the Rivers, Bears, Forests, Stormis and Wolfs,” referencing the names of the children of celebrities such as Kylie Jenner and One Direction’s Liam Payne.
Clinton threw her support behind Hague and said, “People will criticise anything these days, so at least give them something to talk about.”

Clinton gave Daily Mail a rundown of how she had come to name her second child, born in October 2022, the suddenly controversial name Bambi.
“When I was giving birth, I was convinced Bambi was the most unique, unusual name that nobody would use,” Clinton said in the report published on Feb. 2, 2023.
“We were set on calling her Paloma at first. That was her name, and nothing was going to change that,” Clinton continued. However, she said a revelation came to her as she was spending time with her 2-year-old son, Navy.
“But I was reading the book to Navy one night and it came to me. I sat up and yelled, ‘what about Bambi?’ and from then on it stuck,” Clinton explained.
Clinton said she remained absolutely confident about her choice and couldn’t picture it any other way.
“'Obviously, in the movie, Bambi is a male, but she has the sweetest features. The big brown eyes, the long legs – just like Bambi from the film. She couldn't be a Paloma now – she's my Bambilicious,” Clinton gushed.
Clinton had previously courted controversy during her pregnancy with Bambi when she went in for a full-on glow-up that comprised a fake tan, manicure, pedicure and blow-dry just as the birth date was approaching. Being the content creator that she is, she documented every bit of her journey on TikTok.
As for Hague, Clinton urged the reality television star to ignore the haters and live her best life with her new bundle of joy.
“You know, unique names are the new trend… I'd be more concerned calling my kid a name from the 1900s,” Clinton said. “Good on Molly-Mae though, looks like great minds think alike.”
