Parking tickets are one of life's annoyances that you have to learn to deal with. Tickets are not usually very costly, but they can be very inconvenient if you have a busy lifestyle and don't have time to deal with them. Sometimes it's worthwhile to try and talk your way out of a ticket, but these efforts are often not worth the hassle.

As minor as a parking violation is, it can't be ignored because multiple unpaid parking violations can result in your car being confiscated or even a suspended license in extreme cases. Even in the face of such penalties, many people with multiple tickets simply are too broke to pay for them. The police department in Muncie, IN has come up with a creative solution to this dilemma.

During certain times of the year, the animal shelters are overpopulated with kittens during their mating season. These shelters become overwhelmed with their multiplying kitties, and they often need help to take care of them. The police in Muncie have been compassionate enough toward the animals to allow people during this time of year to pay in cat food and cat supplies that can be donated to the local animal care facilities.

The Muncie Police Department alerted the public to this ingenious idea via their Facebook page with a promotional video. In this heartfelt video, Officer Jamie Brown describes her volunteer activities with the local shelter, and she explains how difficult things are for the staff to take care of all the cats. She goes on to explain the idea of using donations to the shelter to alleviate the overcrowding situation.

She stated that the goal was not just to get more people to pay their parking tickets. She asserts that the cause for the animals is just as important if not more so. In order to expedite the program, officers will pick up donations if people are unable to travel to the police station and haul in their cat supplies. This level of commitment to the cause is remarkable.

News of this program spread very quickly, and people were inspired by the compassion of the police. The video was viewed over 40,000 times with many enthusiastic comments that praised the program. When the program was complete, the police department posted the results by uploading images of the empty storage room and showing that it was completely full at the end of the drive.

Not only had more people paid their tickets than ever before, but the program to help the cats was a complete success. Many people who had no tickets also contributed to the campaign. The police were so happy with how well this turned out that they have begun a campaign to increase adoptions of rescue cats in the community so they could solve the overcrowding issue in the shelters.
