At 74-years-old, Erramatti Mangayamma is now the oldest woman to give birth -- beating the next oldest woman, Maria del Carmen Bousada de Lara. She and her husband, 82-year-old Raja Rao, recently became the proud parents of healthy twin girls.

The couple married 57 years ago but were never able to have children. When their neighbor became pregnant at the age of 55 through the use of in vitro fertilization, they decided to try for a child of their own according to The Mirror.

They reportedly sought help from the IVF clinic in the city of Guntur. With just one cycle of IVF, Mangayamma became pregnant despite having gone through menopause nearly thirty years ago. The clinic used eggs from a donor to make this possible. They used Rao's sperm to fertilize the eggs, which were then placed in Mangayamma's womb. From there, the pregnancy progressed normally.

Because of the historic nature of this pregnancy and birth, the clinic funded Mangayamma's treatment. They considered it a medical challenge. To monitor the woman's health and pregnancy, doctors kept her in the hospital. Her babies were born on time and healthy. Mangayamma was overjoyed.

"I cannot express my feeling in words," She said in The Mirror. "These babies complete me. My six decade-long wait has finally come to an end. Now, no one call me infertile anymore."
