Incredible Video Shows Storm Helene 'Reversing' Waterfall

Weather is epic. It's unpredictable and ever changing. Weather can make the oceans rise and cause the rivers to dry out; it can be both destructive and beautiful. Storm Helene was no exception.

On September 18th, a video was captured at the Mallerstang Edge in Cumbria which depicted a waterfall being bombarded with 80 MPH winds. The storm was so strong that it left many without power, but that's not what shocked people. The storm was strong enough that winds were able to reverse the flow of the waterfall--at least that's what it looked like. The winds were no match for the falling water, which instead flew back over the ledge from whence it came. You could clearly see a rainbow forming within the water, too.

The video footage went viral and left many in awe. Gravity is supposed to make water fall and flow downward; anything that's dropped always falls. Yet the laws of physics were seemingly broken, as the water appeared to flow upwards.

Some of the viewers had some fun with this strange weather event. The term "waterfall" was brought into question, as the water isn't exactly "falling" in the footage. Should it now be called an upward-rise-of-water? How about a "waterup?"

Despite the fun, experts have warned about the damaging storms that emerge from this type of weather.

According to BBC, there are currently a variety of public areas in Ireland, including parks, cemeteries, fields, and playgrounds, that were forced to close down completely for a while due to Storm Ali. Nearly 55,000 homes were left without power.

Though this type of phenomenon is incredible, it does come with weather risks! Enjoy nature, but stay safe as well!
