Incredible Moment Rare Kangaroo Joey Peeks Out Of Mother's Pouch Caught On Film

After the rare tree- kangaroo named Mani was discovered to be pregnant earlier this year, her six-month-old offspring whose father is named Bagam has now started peaking out of his mother's pouch. Mani and Bagam who are extremely rare Goodfellow's tree kangaroos were paired in 2016 at the Healesville Sanctuary in Victoria, Australia, and this is their first baby.

These animals are native to Indonesia, and Papua New Guinea, where they are heavily poached for their meat. Along with the fact that their habitat is disappearing because of human encroachment.

This nocturnal marsupial normally crawls into its mother's pouch where it lives until it is ready to emerge about 10 to 12 months later. Therefore, it is expected that Mani will stay in his mother's pouch longer before fully emerging. Even once he leaves the pouch, he will return many times to feed on his mother's milk.

Goodfellow's tree kangaroos live high in the trees where they have very few natural predators. They usually weigh about 17 pounds when fully grown and they are about 25 inches from the tip of their nose to the end of their body. In order to help them get around in trees, however, their tail is almost as long as their body.

These furry mammals have very sharp long claws to help them climb trees, and they have broad feet that help them hang onto branches. They normally eat a diet of tough leafy materials including grains, grasses, and flowers at a forest's edge. They also frequently dine on fruits. Since most of these kangaroos stay close to where they are born, in-breeding is a real problem for this species.
