Incredible Footage Shows Octopus Escape Through TINY Hole In Boat

Octopuses are incredible creatures for many reasons. What they're probably best known for, however, are their escape tactics. You see, octopuses need toys and constant stimulation. Otherwise, they get bored. And a bored octopus is ready to escape. This exciting footage shows one such octopus.

Chance Miller runs a tourist business in Alaska's Chiswell Islands. He narrates the octopus's stunt for his amazed tourists. The octopus doesn't want to be in Miller's boat. It feels like it may be in danger. (You can tell because of the octopus's red color: a red octopus is scared and angry.)

How does the octopus react to this dilemma?

It folds in on itself to make itself small enough to slide through a small hole in Miller's boat. From there, the octopus will safely re-enter the water. Who knows where it will float on from there!

Octopuses are able to do things like this because they have no bones. They are flexible enough to squish themselves into all sorts of weird positions. They can't be held captive for long: octopuses have been known to flee aquariums, too.

Despite these amazing feats, there's still a lot of stigma around octopuses. They're described as weird, even alien. Their appearance freaks a lot of people out, too. Something so gross-looking that also has eight arms?

That can't have come from nature!

Octopuses are actually quite smart regardless of how they might look on the outside. They can even dream! Octopuses have been observed in a state very similar to what we know as REM sleep. In this state, octopuses merely float along with their eyes closed. We know they're dreaming because they change color as they float like this.

What did you think? Amazing, right? Pass it on to your friends and loved ones to show them the wonders of nature as well.
