The wonderful thing about flash mobs is that when you least expect it, they surprise. Suddenly, you're in what appears to be a scene from a musical.

For an audience full of families at St. Paul's Winder Carnival Ice Palace, that is exactly what happened. As others wandered around in the snow, spending time with their families, something unexpected began to happen.

While a crowd enjoyed a nice afternoon at the Winter Carnival in Rice Park, suddenly, there was a noise.

People chanting "USA! The USA!" could be heard throughout the park. What may have initially sounded like a political rally was in actuality, the start of a singing and dancing flash mob? Just as soon as the chanting began, so did the music. Dozens of people wearing purple hats started dancing to "Let's Go Crazy" by Prince.

As the audience looked on, others recorded the wild scene on their phones.

Brought to life by over 50 volunteers, the flash mob was a joint effort of Prince fans of all ages.

Following Prince's recent passing, many of the volunteers were very moved to be included in the dance.

This particular Prince-inspired flash mob was a tribute to the late singer, coordinated by an employee from Medtronic. This employee in question, Jenny Wood, created the routine along with choreographer, Katie Ressie. Bill Herman, co-organizer of the dance, was able to get the entire flash mob on video.

The purple hat clad Prince-lovers wowed the audience with their moves. Going from side to side, they continued to dance, even as the snow was falling hard.

Others in the audience felt touched by the tribute, as Prince was always fond of Minnesota. Just as Prince loved Minnesota, Minnesotans love Prince. Having a Prince flash mob break out in Minnesota was incredibly heart-warming to witness and experience.

Many people watching the flash mob even joined in with the dancing and singing themselves. Fans of the video can't get enough and even wished they could have joined in on the flash mob themselves!
