It’s like you can’t go a few steps these days without hearing the mega-hit “Old Town Road” by Lil Nas X featuring Billy Ray Cyrus. The song has been a favorite for audiences all over the country ever since its release back in April, and one family in Cottage Grove, Minnesota is especially fond of it.

Mother of four Sheletta Brundidge told the Tennessean that in their house they play the song constantly:

"I hear 'Old Town Road' probably eight hours a day," she said. "They wake up and listen to it, and they go to bed and listen to it. It's literally playing right now. ... It's pretty much a part of our family."

The country crossover hit is not just a catchy tune, but more like a source of a miracle for the family. That is especially true for the youngest child four-year-old Daniel. Like two of his siblings Daniel is on the autism spectrum, but he is the only child in the family who is unable to speak. His mom said,

"He just hasn't responded well to the therapy,” she told the Tennessean. “Nothing we've tried has given us the results that we saw with the other children. ... We were beating our head up against the wall."

But all of a sudden Daniel had a breakthrough when he was hanging out with his mom: He started humming and saying the words to “Old Town Road.” This little act is extraordinary because as Sheletta explains in her interview, “This is a child who hasn't said three or four words together in the time he's been alive."

Sheletta wasn’t about to miss this moment and she quickly grabbed her phone to film Daniel singing. The Two Haute Mamas podcast host then put it on her Twitter and the tweet quickly went viral. It is up to 40,000 likes and counting. Lil Nas X himself responded to the tweet and wrote, “what a king,” and Billy Ray Cyrus threw a retweet Sheletta’s way.

Now, Sheletta has wisely asked Daniel’s speech therapists to use the song in their sessions together. She has also decided to incorporate music therapy into the family’s daily routine since it is clear that the power of music has helped her little boy.

“Old Town Road” has been at the peak of the Billboard Top 100 for 14 weeks straight and shows no signs of slowing down. That’s good news for the Brundidges, and for singing star Daniel.
