When a woman and her boyfriend moved into a new apartment, they finally were able to get the pet they had always dreamed about. The new pet-friendly complex allowed Jessica Williams and her partner, Jared, to adopt a four-legged friend of their own.

While Jessica’s birthday was approaching, she didn’t want to wait that long to get a dog. So she and her boyfriend set out on a mission to adopt the dog of their dreams as soon as possible.

When Jessica laid her eyes on a photograph of a sad dog who looked like he was in desperate need of a home, she knew that he was the pet for her. But their story gets a little complicated once they began communicating with the shelter that was housing the dog.

The dog’s name was Benji. Benji had been rescued from the streets of Los Angeles as a stray and taken to the shelter. Benji’s appearance was a little rough, as his allergies to fleas had caused him to lose some of his hair in unsightly ways.

Not only this, but Benji was also a scared and nervous dog due to his upbringing.

Shelter life wasn’t everything that Benji had pictured, and he was having trouble adjusting to his new home. Even though he had only been there a little under two weeks, he often growled and snapped at people who stopped by to visit him. Although his future didn’t look promising, Jessica knew in her heart that this was the dog for her.

After a six-hour drive, she and her boyfriend finally made it to the shelter to adopt the poor puppy.

But when Jessica and Jared arrived at the shelter, the workers were surprised to hear that they were interested in Benji, a dog they looked at as unfriendly. They warned the couple that he may not be the best dog for them due to his special needs and the massive amount of training that he would need.

Despite the warnings, the couple adopted the dog anyway after meeting him. After the adoption papers were signed, the couple headed home with Benji. Although the first few days were rough and Benji was withdrawn and apathetic, things took a turn for the better.

Once Benji adjusted to his new surroundings, he realized he was free to be himself with his new family. Within three short weeks, Benji was already acclimated to his new owners and was a happy, well-behaved puppy.

This is an important lesson that shelter pups may not behave the same way in the shelter as they would when you take them home. All they need is a little love and care. What do you think about this story? Have you ever adopted a pet from a shelter?
