If Your Vehicle Is Sinking Underwater, Do This To Survive

We all think that certain things won’t happen to us. Unfortunately, circumstances can change in an instant and not always for the better. It is important to be informed and keep yourself prepared for the worst that could happen when you are driving.

One of these things is how to tell the difference between untampered and tempered glass. Another is knowing where there are pressure points on windows. It could be a matter of life and death. If you ever become trapped in a car, remember to focus on the edges of the window you are trying to break. This is true even if the car is submerged in water. The main windshield of a vehicle is built to splinter and crack.

But your side windows are built to shatter when they are hit.

The glass in the middle of the window will be the hardest to break, whether your car is submerged in water or not. The key to your freedom is having a blunt object close to your, such as a hammer, wrench, or screwdriver. Many people do not know how much pressure water can add to a window.

But if your car is submerged underwater, you’ll have up to 850 more pounds of pressure working against you. Because of this, trying to break the middle of the window will be basically useless.

Instead, grab ahold of your blunt object and aim for the corners of the window. Strike it as hard as you can to make it break. It will allow the water to rush in, giving you an escape route. If you are trapped in a car above the water, breaking the side of the window is also your best bet. Remember, timing is a matter of life and death if your car is underwater.

Keep calm and act as quickly as possible. The lower your car goes underwater, the harder the window will be to break, due to the extra pressure. You can also purchase a special tool that will break a window in an emergency. Just be sure you can easily access it when you need it.
