It seems like criminals are always coming up with crafty and devious new ways to take advantage of innocent people. With the invention of the internet, it's become easier than ever before for evil people to share their clever schemes with other would-be criminals.

Thankfully, though, the internet has also become a powerful tool for good people to use for sounding the alarm about these kinds of awful tricks. Those who don't want to become the victim of a crime should do all they can to learn about the latest nasty tricks the criminals have got up their sleeves.

For wise car owners who want to avoid having their vehicles stolen, this chilling warning about the car thieve's bottle trick may certainly come in handy someday!

Though no one really knows where this trick originated, it was first reported in Limpopo, which is an African region located at the border of Botswana and South Africa.

An innocent car owner told the authorities there that their car had been stolen by a creative criminal who had used an unlikely prop: a plastic bottle.

Those seeking to use this trick could choose a soda bottle, a juice bottle, or a water bottle. It really makes no difference.

But if you walk up to your car and see a plastic bottle wedged between the wheel well and your tire, it's time to contact the authorities and flee to a safe place until they arrive!

This trick has become so popular, in fact, that an internet video surfaced teaching would-be criminals how to do it!

A Mexican YouTube Channel put out this video to warn people not to fall for the trick. Here's how they said it works. Though it was filmed in Spanish, you don't need to be able to speak Spanish to clearly understand what the video is trying to portray.

The warning video has gone viral with over 6 million views!

Step one for the criminal is to find a parked car they'd like to steal.

The second step is to wedge the bottle firmly in place between the car's tire and wheel well. They'll try to hide the tire from view if at all possible.

Then, the criminal will simply hide nearby and watch for the car owner to return to the car.

The car owner will get into their car just as they usually do, not suspecting any foul play.

Once they turn on the car and move into reverse or drive they'll hear the loud pop or crackle sound as the bottle breaks.

This would normally cause the driver to suspect that there's a problem with their vehicle.

Many drivers in this situation who don't know they're about to be victimized will leave the keys in their car's ignition and allow it to keep running.

As soon as they get out to check their car and find out the cause of the loud noise the thief will spring into action.

Before the owner of the car realizes what's happening, the thief or group of thieves will already be in the car speeding away from the scene of the crime!

Since this video has been so widely viewed it's entirely possible that car thieves in your area are already using this trick. Don't become a victim!
