The "American Idol" contestant originally appeared on the first season of the reality show's reboot. Although he certainly turned some heads during his first appearance, the judges eventually sent him home. The celebrity judges said that Hardy did not yet have the confidence that he needed to make it in the cutthroat music industry.

Although Hardy was understandably disappointed, he used their constructive criticism as motivation and continued to work on his confidence. He even posted videos on his YouTube channel, including a stirring rendition of the Elvis Presley classic, "Blue Suede Shoes."

Hardy unexpectedly then found himself back on "American Idol" after he showed up to play the guitar for a friend who was auditioning. Hardy decided to go for it again after the judges asked him to audition.

To Hardy's great delight, he was then offered a golden ticket to advance to the next round of competition in Hollywood. The young crooner became a fast fan-favorite. During the round of 14, he impressed the judges and audience with another Presley favorite when he sang "That's All Right."

Hardy used this story of redemption to prove that he had gained the confidence that he had once lacked. He moved around the stage with a larger than life presence, showing that he belonged in the spotlight. Judge Lionel Ritchie even acknowledged that Hardy was on fire as he commanded the stage with ease.
