Identical Twin Baby Girls Demonstrate Catchiest Laughter Ever Heard

Jun 21, 2020 by apost team

Identical twins Ella and Emma Hulen are best known for playing Donna Corinthos on ABC's  General Hospital . Recently, they entertained the internet with their contagious laughter in a video recorded by their mom, who was giving them the giggles just by using a washcloth.

Is there any sound that embodies pure joy more than a baby's laughter? We didn't think so. This adorable clip is guaranteed to make you smile as identical twins Ella and Emma Hulen laugh as their mother playfully drops a washcloth, lightly at their feet. Their joyful reactions to a washcloth highlight what the world must seem like to an infant and is what makes us love babies all the more. They remind us to take in the world around us and enjoy it.

Why Do Babies Laugh?

Caspar Addyman, Director of the Goldsmith Infant Lab at the University of London studies babies' laughter and what it means for how infants develop and communicate over time. For instance, babies begin to laugh at around three-months-old and begin speaking much later in life, closer to a year. This communication is one of the earliest forms in humans and gives us insight as to how babies feel and what they are thinking.

Also, how do they know to laugh? Is it something that they learn from watching their parents or is it a biological response? We know that they laugh more when they hear a funny noise or see a funny expression, but why do they laugh at a washcloth? The truth is that the laughter of babies is not fully understood. However, it makes it all the more magical when it happens.

Two Babies Laughing

It is also interesting to note that babies also laugh significantly more when they are with another baby. So, had the Hulen twins not been together, they may not have laughed as much or even at all. However, because the twins are together, their laughter bounces off one another.

Just when you think it's over, one baby laughs and the other joins in. The resulting chorus of laughter is pure joy times two.

Why We Love Laughing Babies

This precious act of laughter is easily one of the most enjoyable sounds a baby can make. We love to hear babies laugh and somehow, their laughter is contagious for us. It would be very difficult to watch these baby girls giggle at a washcloth and not crack a smile or laugh.

It's hard to believe that laughing over something so simple as a washcloth can mean so much, but it goes a long way to proving that laughter means more than its face value. Scientists may not fully understand the reasons why babies laugh and what it means, but there's no denying that we enjoy hearing that laughter. It is an indication of a happy, healthy baby and reassures us that everything will be okay.
