Ice Skating Siblings Show That Metallica Is The Perfect Music For Their Stunning Performance

Jan 19, 2021 by apost team

If you were asked to select a song to help you skate more gracefully, you'd probably come up with a collection of elegant, tasteful tunes. In all likelihood, heavy metal wouldn’t be among them.

Obvious, right? Not really. As it turns out, not everyone loves skating to the “usual” dancing or skating music. Gage and Oona Brown, a pair of siblings from New York City, recorded a movie of their ice skating back in 2020 and set it to, of all things, Metallica's "Nothing Else Matters."

Recently, two siblings, Gage and Oona Brown, proved how divergent skating music choices can be by selecting one of the most unthinkable music genres to help them skate more gracefully: Metallica’s heavy metal.

Metallica is a successful American heavy metal band that has sold 125 million albums worldwide as of 2018. Although their music is great, not very many people would choose it for their skating routine ... unless those people are Gage and Oona Brown!

Skating Like Nothing Else Matters

During the Thanksgiving weekend, New York City was understandably empty, and Gage and Oona Brown saw it as an opportunity to do their “little” skating thing uninterrupted. They got their cameraman and started showing off their amazing new routine to one of Metallica’s best songs: “Nothing Else Matters.” The routine began rather simply. The siblings were facing the camera; Gage Brown was behind Oona Brown, which meant that he was partially blocked from the shot.

Suddenly, the music started playing and the two began to stretch out. They both started facing each other and moving in again. As the music played, Gage Brown took his sister’s hand, and they both began sliding gracefully across the ice. At some point, Oona Brown released her brother's hand and skated ahead, and then Gage Brown followed her. Once again, Gage Brown grabbed his sister's hands, and they both started to dance together while moving. Before long, the siblings were already using each other for support while leaning backward. When they finished the move, they went back to their upright position and skated backward.

Unexpected Music With An Unexpected Performance

In an interesting turn of events, Gage Brown lifted Oona Brown suavely into the air and started spinning her around. Shortly afterward, they let go of one another and began skating forward, making a parallel formation. They started leaning forward and each one of them lifted one leg into the air. At this point, it was difficult to imagine how they were still in perfect motion, but they continued to display their skill. They continued moving forward, and with one of their legs still in the air, they began spinning wonderfully in circles.

That sort of marked the end of the first half of their routine. While still in motion, Gage Brown took his sister’s hands once again. They both started skating while holding each other for a few seconds. The next part is definitely the high point of the video. Gage Brown lifted his sister fluidly into the air and then had her rest on his shoulders. As they did this, the speed at which they were skating had not reduced. They actually seemed to move across the ice a little faster.

After a short while, they changed their position and Oona Brown was standing back on the ice. She was still holding her brother’s hand as they worked to maintain their rapid pace. It wasn’t long before the siblings were apart once more although they still maintained their perfect synchrony while skating. A few moments later, they changed their position, and Gage Brown lifted his sister dynamically into the air once more. He began skating to the side and then spinning in a circle.

Soon, it was Oona Brown who was holding her brother’s leg while he leaned forward. Once again, they both started spinning rapidly on the spot.  A couple of movements later, the siblings started dancing smoothly, though rapidly, across the ice. As it seemed, Gage Brown had not had enough of his skating partner. He energetically lifted her up once more, and she gracefully sat on one of his shoulders. As she made herself comfortable, her brother was skating forward fast and confidently.

Oona Brown then lifted up from his shoulder as he held her onto her leg firmly. Although it seemed like a dangerous thing to do, she kept at it and they continued moving suavely and swiftly. After making a couple more spins, it was time to change the movement and the whole routine altogether.

What should also be mentioned is their cameraman (or woman), who kept filming while moving alongside them on the ice. Most likely without all the dance moves and pirouettes, though certainly with just as much concentration!

Gage Brown quickly moved Oona Brown onto the floor. Almost instantaneously, and without letting go of each other’s torso, they crouched down to the floor. A few seconds later, they returned to their upright position and then started leaning forward while skating backward.

They leaned forward to an extent that their bodies were nearly touching the ground. As you can imagine, that was not an easy move to pull off. It could explain, however, why they put it at the very end. They both went back to a standing position similar to the start, and just like that, the show was over.

A Stunning Conclusion

The cameraman drew the camera backward gently and revealed how empty New York City was. Even with the high population that the city is known to have, not a single soul had any idea what was going on outside their well-lit apartments. No one knew that a breathtaking routine had just ended so close to their residence. But at least they were warm and cozy in there — hopefully.

It might have been the influence of the music of Metallica, a heavy metal band known for their symphonic music, that led to such an exceptional performance or the loneliness of a Thanksgiving weekend in New York during 2020. Perhaps it was just two talented people trying to test a few moves. Whatever it was that led Oona and Gage Brown to make that video, it revealed to the world some that these two siblings were going to make it far!
