"I Wish I Had One More Shot": Dwayne Johnson Posts Video Of His Eulogy At His Father Rocky's Funeral

While fighting back tears, Dwayne Johnson paid tribute to his father Rocky at his funeral. After Rocky Johnson died on January 15th of a heart attack, "The Rock" shared his regret about not getting "one more shot" before his father passed away.

During his father, Rocky Johnson's, funeral, Dwayne Johnson gave a heartfelt eulogy that moved him to tears. The actor shared the clip of his eulogy on Instagram and even took a significant pause to collect himself before beginning his tribute. Rocky Johnson was 75 at the time of his death.

Dwayne paid homage to his dad and recalled what a pioneer Rocky was as an African-American wrestler. Fellow colleagues in the wrestling business such as Hulk Hogan and Vince McMahon were in the audience as Dwayne recalled the moment he was informed of Rocky's passing and what he felt his father would want him to do moving forward.

The Death of a Legendary Wreslter

Rocky Johnson, also known as "Soul Man," died of a heart attack on January 15th. Dwayne uploaded an video clip a few days after his father's passing, revealing a few details about his death. 

The now blockbuster movie star disclosed how his father had a complicated blood clot in his leg while simultaneously fighting a cold and infection. After traveling to other parts of his body and even his lung, it triggered Rocky to have a fatal heart attack.

A Difficult Eulogy

Many fans showed support and extended words of comfort towards Dwayne, to which he was grateful. Dwayne also expressed his gratitude towards his father by giving his eulogy.

Even after Dwayne initially took his place behind the podium, he needed a minute to prepare himself to speak. While mustering the strength to say the words he had prepared for his father, one could see that Dwayne was trying to gather himself and suppress tears. After this emotional moment of near silence, Dwayne spoke about his deep regret over his father's unexpected passing, "I wish I had one more shot just to say goodbye, to say I love you, to say thank you, to say I respect you. But I have a feeling he's watching, he's listening."

Receiving the News on his Father's Death

Dwayne told the guests at the funeral how he was at work when his wife, Lauren Hashian, told him the news about his father.

Dwayne said his reception of the news was "like it was a big dream," and "it all went foggy." He also noted that he felt as if he heard his father whisper to him, "the show must go on."

Rocky was working on his biopic at the time of his death at the age of 75. A WWE Hall of Famer, Rocky won several regional National Wrestling Alliance titles and was also a successful tag-team specialist with his father-in-law, Samoan wrestler, Peter "High Chief" Maivia. After retiring in 1991, Rocky trained his son Dwayne to go on to debut in WWE when it was still called WWF (World Wrestling Federation) in 1996. Rocky used the name Rocky Maivia to honor his teammate and father.

A Tribute for the Trailblazer

After delivering a speech that was over 10 minutes long, Dwayne said his father was a "trailblazer" who opened doors for black men wanting to pursue wrestling during the 1960s and 70s.

The grieving star said that his father "changed the audience's behavior and actually had them cheer for this black man."

Dwayne expressed that his father was taken from him "too fast," and also commended him for his tough love by saying that Rocky "raised me with an iron hand and a tough complicated love. A love that now, as a father and a man, I've learned to refine as I raise my own."
