'I'm Having Fun Watching Him' Michael Jordan Says About Being a New Grandfather

Oct 29, 2019 by apost team

It has been over 15 years since Michael Jordan hung up his basketball jersey, much to the dismay of his massive global fan base that worshipped him for his baller skills.

But recently Jordan is proud to have stepped into one of the proudest positions he has ever had the honor to fill: grandfather to a lovely little grandson, Rakeem Michael Christmas.

His time on Today is the first time that Jordan has truly opened up about what it is like to be a grandfather. Michael Jordan has just one daughter, Jasmine, who is the mother of Jordan’s darling baby grandson, Rakeem.

Jasmine and her fiancé, who is also named Rakeem, chose to name their baby son after his father, yet they also chose to give him the middle name of his adoring grandfather, Michael Jordan. Thus, Rakeem Michael Christmas was born and aptly named for the two strong men in his life.

The basketball legend, Michael Jordan, told the hosts of Today that it has been nothing but a truly fun ride having his first grandson be born and be a part of his life. Jordan made note of what a beautiful name his daughter and her fiancé chose, naming him after his father.

He also said that it has been nothing but absolute fun getting to spend time with Rakeem Michael and commented on how much he loves playing with him, holding him, and watching him grow.

Welcoming Rakeem Michael Christmas

Michael Jordan’s daughter and future son-in-law, Jasmine and Rakeem, welcomed baby Rakeem into the world in May of this year. Jasmine Jordan chose to share the news of the birth via her Instagram so the whole world could share in her joy!

The precious picture on Instagram showed the newborn holding his mom’s index finger with a tiny fist. The caption made note of Jasmine’s first mother’s day. Her fiancé Rakeem also shared the news of his baby’s birth through Instagram and gave Jasmine a big shout out for a happy mother’s day.

Michael Jordan is Still Giving Back

Since saying farewell to pro basketball, Jordan has made giving back to his community his sport of choice. Just recently he commissioned the Novant Health Michael Jordan Medical Clinic, costing a whopping $7 million out of his pocket.

The clinic will serve the Charlotte area and focus on helping people who are under-insured or have no insurance gain access to quality healthcare.

Congratulations to the new grandpa! Are you a big Michael Jordan fan? Pass this on to other basketball fans to let them know.
