Former president Jimmy Carter is back in the hospital again after receiving brain surgery this past week. The procedure was done in order to help alleviate pressure caused by falls the 95-year-old suffered this past year.

The 39th president is the oldest living former president the U.S. currently has. Despite Carter's health issues, he has continued to participate in events and actively volunteers.

A few Sundays ago, Carter talked about his 2015 cancer battle during a church service in his hometown of Plains, Georgia. "I assumed, naturally, that I was going to die very quickly," Carter said according to CNN. The activist was told by doctors that the cancer had spread to his brain.

"I obviously prayed about it. I didn't ask God to let me live, but I asked God to give me a proper attitude toward death. And I found that I was absolutely and completely at ease with death," he said.

This past Sunday before undergoing brain surgery to reduce pressure from recent falls Carter has suffered from, the former president explained how he believes he will live again even after he has passed.

"So I'm gonna live again after I die. I don't know what form I'll take, and I think I have confidence that there is a God and He is all-powerful, that He keeps his promises and His promise is life after death," he said according to CBN News.

In October, Carter suffered a fall at his Georiga home -- the third fall this year. The fall resulted in a minor pelvic fracture but only weeks later Carter was up again and teaching Sunday School in his hometown.

During a news conference after Carter defeated brain cancer, the former president said, that his fate was "in the hands of God" and he promised to continue teaching Sunday school at his church in Georgia "as long as I'm physically able."
