Husbands Nags Wife And Mother Of 3 For Not Taking Care Of Her Looks — Infuriated, She Puts Him In His Place

Being a stay-at-home parent isn’t as easy as some may think. While one partner is out working for a good majority of the day, the other is at home catering to their child — or children — and taking care of all of the household chores, like cooking and cleaning. These tasks are typically extremely demanding and time-consuming, which is why it’s common for couples to divide the work. Even if one parent is working at the other is specifically a stay-at-home parent, the workload is usually at least somewhat dispersed between the two so they can each take some time for themselves to relax.
This was not the case for one couple in particular. While the husband was off at work for long shifts as a pilot, his wife stayed home to take care of their three children: a 5-year-old, a 3-year-old and a 6-month-old baby. On top of taking care of all three kids day and night, the wife was also in charge of making sure all of the household chores were finished. Her husband never helped out. Since she was so busy taking care of everyone and everything else in her house, she didn’t have much time to take care of herself or do anything to make herself feel good, such as doing her hair and makeup or getting her nails done.
Tensions rose between the couple before the wife finally snapped one day during a family dinner. Everyone was stunned by her reaction, and she and her husband continued to fight even after dinner was over. The stay-at-home mom went to Reddit on Sept. 4, 2021, to talk about her situation and ask users if she was right or wrong for blowing up at her husband.

Starting off her Reddit post, the original poster (OP) explained that she and her husband had been having a few arguments about how she no longer takes time to look nice since she’s always so busy catering to the kids and doing chores. This all came to a head during dinner at OP’s parents’ house, while OP spoke with her mother and sister about preparations for her sister’s wedding, specifically about their hair, makeup and wardrobe for the big day.
OP’s husband overheard their conversation and raised his eyebrows at his wife whenever someone mentioned the words haircut, makeup or a new dress. Eventually, he chimed in with his own thoughts and brought up the issues he had been having with OP back at home. OP said that her husband “openly criticized” her current look for being “unladylike,” since she no longer spent much time doing her hair or makeup or dressing nicely. He even commented that she should change her hair color, get her nails done and buy a new “nice” dress for once.
“I was stunned, mouth wide open and so were my parents,” OP explained. Her husband wasn’t done ranting, though, and said that OP should be “more energetic, positive, outgoing, sexy and so on,” before once again calling her unladylike. OP was furious, and exclaimed, “Behind every unladylike, miserable woman… there’s a trash, negative a**hole man.” The criticism was then directed toward the husband as OP bashed him for not pitching in enough with child care or the housework. “I’ve pointed out that there are a LOT of dads who are money makers and still do their part as partners and parents,” OP wrote in her Reddit post.

After they left, the couple continued to fight in the car. OP’s husband accused her of creating a “false” and “misleading” impression of him in front of his in-laws, but OP reasoned that he was the one who instigated the fight by bringing up their private issues. Still, the husband stood by what he said, and shrugged it off as just giving his wife “some innocent advice.”
Giving some background information, OP explained that actually does her hair and wears a small amount of makeup, but her husband wants her to do more for herself, like go to the salon or buy new clothes. He simply saw his suggestions as sound advice, but OP felt undermined. “I might’ve been on the oversensitive side lately but I feel like he was being pushy and he thinks I ruined his relationship with my family with what I said,” she wrote.
Many Reddit users commented that they didn’t believe OP was wrong for standing up for herself and speaking her mind. One user commented,” He is a parent. It’s his responsibility to help with the children… Don’t let him guilt you into thinking you are in the wrong.” Other users explained that it was essentially up to OP to decide if she even wanted to get dolled up, and said her husband should buy her new clothes if he wanted her to wear them so badly. Several users continued to show their support for this stay-at-home mom finally putting her husband in his place.
