Husband Goes 'Nuclear' As Wife’s Entire Family Shows Up During The Newlyweds' Honeymoon

Nov 10, 2021 by apost team

Getting married is a beautiful experience for two people to share with one another. It’s a way to solidify your relationship for the rest of your lives together, and most couples start that celebration by embarking on a fun and romantic honeymoon. This is usually when the newly married couple gets to spend some quality time together, but this trip, unfortunately, doesn’t always go as planned.

One husband was left fuming after getting an unwanted surprise at his honeymoon in Nauru with his new wife back in 2019. His wife’s family — her parents, her sisters and their spouses — all showed up unannounced and ended up making reservations at the same hotel as the husband and his wife. The husband was livid and immediately told them to leave once he found out.

The family tried to spend time with the newlyweds, but the husband was not having it. He set boundaries with them and went nuclear, cursing them out multiple times while trying to get his point across. Although he came across as rude, he believed that his wife’s family was rude for inviting themselves along to a private, romantic honeymoon meant for just him and his wife.

Even though it had been two years since the incident happened, the husband was still extremely upset and uploaded a since-deleted Reddit post in September 2021 to share his troubles with other users and see what advice they could offer him. The situation left a strain on his marriage, and he wanted to know what he could do to fix it.

Unwanted Guests

Starting off his now-deleted Reddit post, the original poster (OP) explained that he and his wife are from Australia. They chose to honeymoon in Nauru, a tiny island country northeast of Australia with sandy beaches, as a way to jumpstart their marriage back in 2019. However, their trip to paradise didn’t go as planned after the wife’s family decided to “surprise” them by showing up unannounced. They even booked rooms on the same floor at the hotel the newlyweds were staying in.

The situation only got worse as the family tried to involve themselves in everything the married couple was doing. OP explained, “They showed up at our dinner table and I just said, ‘All of you guys leave, now.’” At first, the family was confused but eventually left the couple alone for the time being.

“I’m laying on the beach with my wife and they join us,” OP continued. “We ignore them as they talk to us, never say a single word.” A few minutes later, OP decided that he had had enough and yelled at them as loudly as he could, saying, “It’s our honeymoon, just for me and my wife, not you guys.” He proceeded to tell the family members to leave him and his wife alone.

His mother-in-law instantly broke down in tears, and the family ultimately decided to leave, but not before calling OP some rude names. His wife was left just as angry with him as the rest of her relatives, as she couldn’t believe he could be so cold to her own family members.

Struggling With His Marriage

OP continued, “They tried calling and texting me trying to work it out which I ignored. Maybe they left early or took a hint because we didn’t see them again.” Even though OP got what he wanted, his marriage has been struggling ever since. “This left a serious strain and we are still having issues today from it,” he said.

OP turned to Reddit users for advice, to which many agreed he was right to stand up against the wife’s family members. One user commented, “Who shows up uninvited to someone’s honeymoon! That’s just ridiculous.” Another user said, “My brother’s in-laws not only showed up on the honeymoon but changed the reservation to connecting rooms. SHOCK!! The marriage didn’t last long.”

However, other users said that OP should have tried to handle the situation with more politeness. One user said:

“You could have much more politely asked them to leave you guys alone and pointed out that honeymoons are meant for the couple only, not family. It feels like you went from zero to 100 super quick cussing them out, out of the blue. Your wife has a right to be upset at how you reacted. Based on your post you seemingly didn’t even try an alternative way of asking them to leave.”

Another user agreed and commented, “I sort of find OP’s actions extreme based on what little he mentions. There’s no build up, there’s no prolonged history of the rest of the family overstepping or doing this sort of thing constantly… Without all that, what OP did seems like a lot.”
