A seemingly small act of kindness from an anonymous grandma in Massachusetts is making a big local and social media impact. This inspiring story is about 75 hand-knitted hats, but it’s showing everyone that anyone can make a difference in helping others if they just have the desire to do so.

Spreading Some Warmth, Kindness, And Inspiration

It all started when an 87-year-old woman knitted 75 hats so that anyone at a local park needing warmth would have something available to them. Each hat was put in an individual ziplock bag to keep the snow from dampening them. Using clothespins, the woman’s daughter then hung all 75 hats along the fence at Nelson Memorial Park in Plymouth.

Within just a few days, there were only four hats left hanging on the fence. Of course, everyone was wondering who had done such a nice thing for the community. Boston 25 News spoke with the kind woman, but she wished to remain anonymous. She doesn’t want recognition, saying she prefers to be in the “background.”

In fact, it turns out the knitted hats hung at Nelson Memorial Park wasn’t her first nor last time giving to others. She regularly donates hats to the local homeless shelters, too. Both are acts she plans to continue yearly.

As to the whys, she says it just makes her feel good to do something to help someone else, she told Boston 25 News. She hopes that her hats offered comfort and warmth to those who needed them. Indeed, for those without the necessities, it’s little things like the warmth of a simple hat that can make huge differences.

It took our mystery woman a day to make each hat. While she didn’t mention the amount or cost of the yarn she used to make each hat, social media sprung into action. On Twitter alone, countless replies and retweets offered to donate yarn, machines, and other help after hearing the story. And, countless tweets mentioned her with #inspiration.

According to Boston 25 News, the donor said that it would thrill her to pieces to see someone wearing one of her hats. Do you know anyone? If so, call it out here so she can see her hard work in action.
