Hugh Jackman Calls Nicole Kidman A ‘Generous’ Soul For Surprising $100,000 Donation

Nicole Kidman is an American-born Australian actress who has received many accolades throughout her inspiring career. She has received Golden Globe awards, Primetime Emmys and an Academy Award from five nominations. In 2006, 2018 and 2019, Kidman was the highest-paid actress in Hollywood. In 2020, Kidman was deemed one of the top five greatest actors of the 21st Century by The New York Times.

She began her career in 1983 and is best known for her roles in the films "Eyes Wide Shut," "The Hours" — which earned her the Academy Award — and "Moulin Rouge!" She is also an accomplished television star, with her most successful role being in "Big Little Lies." The series earned her two Emmy awards, one for acting and another for being an executive producer. 

Kidman has been married to husband Keith Urban since 2006, and the pair share two children. The actress credits her husband for helping her gain confidence in herself and coming out of her shell. However, one place where Kidman’s confidence has always shown is on the big screen.

The star is not afraid to undergo a bold transformation if it helps her get deeper into her role. Throughout her long career, Kidman has dramatically changed her look a number of times, and the effort has certainly helped her performances as well. 

While Kidman has continued to be a great star for many years, she has also proven to be a great friend. In November 2022, she surprised fellow actor Hugh Jackson onstage with a huge, generous donation.

Kidman has been through quite a lot in her life. She went through a public divorce from Tom Cruise before finding love with her current husband, Urban. She also struggled with pregnancies but is at peace with the family she has today.

Back in August 2021, she told Marie Claire that she “would’ve loved 10 kids,” and added: “But that’s OK because I get to mother other children. I have six nieces and nephew and I’m godmother to 12. I love mothering, I love kids: they’re quirky, funny and unfiltered. And then you get to see them grow and send them on their way.” 

Jackman and Kidman are actors who are also friends and have proven that they use their platform for good. Jackman is an Australian actor who is best known for playing the role of Wolverine in the "X-Men" film franchise from 2000 to 2017. The star has gone on to have a successful career both commercially and critically. He has won a Grammy Award, an Emmy Award, two Tony Awards, and a Golden Globe Award. Jackman got his start working in theater and on television in Australia before he crossed over into the film industry in Hollywood.

The actor has played the lead role in such films as "Kate & Leopold," "Van Helsing," "The Prestige," and "Australia." Jackman also starred as Jean Valjean in the epic musical film "Les Misérables," for which he was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor. Another popular musical film led by Jackman is "The Greatest Showman."

Both Jackman and Kidman have been given great opportunities over the years, resulting in highly successful careers. However, they have made sure to give back when they can.

Speaking with the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia (NFSA), Kidman said:

“But it's, you know, it's very hard still to make a living primarily as a film actor here. So you have to be diverse and you have to be willing to go different places. You have to be willing to also try different careers. But our job is to constantly be giving back to this industry, to have it grow and thrive so that every generation that comes has something to go, 'Oh, I grew up with that film.’”

So, it wasn’t surprising to see Kidman do her part and give back when she went to watch Jackman onstage for the Broadway show “Music Man.” A video showed Kidman offering quite a generous donation – she offered to donate $100,000 for the hat that Jackman wore in the show! Kidman then joined Jackman onstage, where she received a vigorous round of applause and a big hug from her friend.

This was all an effort with Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. Kidman explained, “I love Broadway, I love what they do – Broadway Cares, but I also want to say, the show is extraordinary.”

After Kidman returned to her seat, Jackson praised her for her kindness. “I’ve known Nic for almost 30 years,” he said. “I’ve worked with her, I can tell you this is not a surprise. She’s one of the most generous souls I know.”

On Nov. 27, 2022, Jackman also tweeted his gratitude toward the actress, saying:

“The generosity emanating from #NicoleKidman leaves me speechless! You ARE amazing. Thank you for your friendship and support! @MusicManBway @NicolastheWard @BCEFA.”

It’s great to see the friendship that Kidman and Jackman share and even greater to see how they have used their platforms to help others!
