A group of New Jersey fishermen was out on their boat “Big Nutz Required II” when they had a close encounter with a sea creature they never would expect to see.

Five fishermen from the town of Tom’s River, New Jersey were out on a fishing expedition about 30 miles out into the ocean from Point Pleasant. An incredible sight appeared before them when they spotted a giant fish circling the boat.

“When you're out there in a boat like that with a fish that big you feel very small,” said fisherman Steve Minkema to CBS. He was about to feel even smaller when they all realized it was a Great White Shark which was estimated to be about 18 feet long at 3,000 lbs.

The fishermen took out their phones to film the beast as it came closer and closer to the tiny boat and thankfully for us, caught the whole thing on camera. It was incredible to watch it in action, swimming powerfully as it approached the boat’s chum bag that was flung over the side. The bag full of fish was just a snack for the enormous animal, and he just snapped it right off the boat in one go.

The footage is reminiscent of a certain ocean-themed movie, and fisherman Jeff Crilly likened it to “Jaws.” He even referred to a tattoo on his arm as he spoke with CBS showing the exact scene when the “Jaws” shark attacks the tiny Orca fishing boat.

The five fishermen are actually a part of ongoing competition and will be back on the water again. Props to them for having the guts to return to the boat even after knowing what’s out there lurking in the depths. But to the fishermen it was exciting: “We've been fishing together for 15 years and it was the best moment probably we'll ever have on the water,” said fisherman Raymond Kerico.
