Marriage is full of trials and tribulations. Knowing whether or not you've found the right person before taking that giant leap of faith is crucial to long-term success.

No one knows that better than former President Barack Obama, who, alongside his wife Michelle Obama, has faced many difficult decisions throughout the course of their 25 year marriage.

From campaigning to running an entire country, Obama has been through it all. His supportive wife Michelle has always been there to bounce ideas off of and encourage him when times were tough.

So it makes perfect sense that many people have turned to the former president for marriage advice. Several of Obama's former staffers and campaign managers have gone on to marry each other after meeting on various projects for the former president.

One of those staffers, former communications director Dan Pfeiffer, sought Obama's advice before moving in with his then-girlfriend Howli Ledbetter.

Pfeiffer revealed details of that fateful conversation that he shared with Obama during a car ride on his final day working at the White House in 2015. In his new book, "Yes We (Still) Can", Pfeiffer says that the former president asked how things were going with his girlfriend and had some interesting questions for him upon learning that they were getting ready to move in together.

Obama reportedly asked Pfeiffer if Ledbetter was "the one" to which he said yes.

After confirming that Ledbetter was in fact "the one", Obama had some advice for Pfeiffer about determining whether or not the two were ready for the next step of marriage.

He told Pfeiffer to ask himself three important questions about his love before taking the plunge. First, "Is she someone you find interesting?", since this is the person you will be spending the most time with for the rest of your life. Second, "Does she make you laugh?", because humor is needed during the most difficult times of a marriage. Lastly, "Do you think she will be a good mom?", since raising children is one of the most trying things a couple can face together.

Pfeiffer emphatically replied that Ledbetter fit the bill for all of those things, to which Obama reportedly replied:

“Sounds like she’s the one. Lucky you,”

Pfeiffer went on to marry Ledbetter in October 2016. He praises Obama for bringing the pair together since he met his wife while working for the former president. It seems Obama's lovely wife Michelle had some more great marriage advice when she appeared on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" in 2015

“What I’ve come to find is, you don’t sweat the small stuff,” she told Ellen. “The journey that we’ve taken together, the fun we’ve had, the challenges we’ve faced, the two beautiful children that we’re raising – I kind of give him a pass now when he leaves his socks on the floor or tells that story for the one hundredth time and wants us to laugh at it as if we first heard it.”

Do you agree with Barack and Michelle Obama's marriage advice? What do you think the key is to long-term marriage success? If you felt this advice was worthwhile, be sure to pass it along to family and friends.
