How to Enjoy A Healthy Sleep in Your Favorite Position

When we fall asleep, we're likely so tired that we're not even thinking about our health. However, some positions are worth trying to stay safe.

Sleeping On Your Side

It's hard to imagine how a sleeping position can help out with so much discomfort. Scientifically speaking, sleeping on the side is known to activate cerebrospinal fluids in order to help our bodies fight off toxins better. Research has also shown that diseases such as Parkinson's and Alzheimer's can be combated by simply sleeping on our sides at night. And, even though targeting the left side of your body to sleep on does add a little bit of pressure to our livers, it can help you get rid of a nagging headache. Here are some other tips for sleeping on your side:

Intestinal Problems: If you sleep on your left side, you'll open up your bloodstream which helps take pressure off your stomach whenever you're experiencing some digestive issues.

How To Keep Your Back Straight: If you want to maintain a healthy posture when sleeping on your side, try adding a pillow between your legs. Not only will your joints benefit, but you might find it more comforting.

High Blood Pressure: Believe it or not, sleeping on your right side will help your heart with a lot of high blood pressure issues.

Sleeping On Your Back

Sleeping on your back does help with back and joints pains, heart burn, and even wrinkly skin. If you're dealing with some nasal issues, high blood pressure, or apnea, it's recommended to try these simple tricks to help out your situation:

When You Snore: Straighten out your air passage ways by simply placing a firm pillow under your neck.

Nasal Issues: When your nose is clogged, it can feel impossible to fall asleep. Try adding multiple pillows--just enough so your neck isn't strained--under your neck in order to allow mucus to pass through.

Achey Pains: Try adding foam roller under you back, a smaller pillow behind your neck, and a larger pillow behind your knees; this combo will make you much more comfortable.

Sleeping On Your Stomach

Certain studies based out of Japan have identified clear benefits of sleeping on your stomach. Not only will it help get rid of a bad snoring problem, but it also helps your digestive tract, helps your blood pressure, and even eases heartburn. However, you should use this simple trick to prevent any further risk from sleeping on your stomach:

How To Prevent Your Spine From Unnecessary/Dangerous Bending: This ultimately takes away some tension in your lower back. It's easy--just place a pillow under your stomach, right around where your pelvis is, and be sure to have a fairly flat pillow under your head. That way, your spine will be safe, flexible, and won't risk being injured.

Sleeping In The Fetal Position

Everybody loves curling up into a ball and falling asleep. The fetal position is one of the most iconic sleeping positions. One has to wonder if it's because that's the way we spend all of our developmental time within the womb. However, the fetal position is tough on the back, and can cause some serious harm to our back. However, there's a quick trick to ensure our backs stay nice and straight in this comfy position:

Straight Back In Fetal Position: Just add a pillow between your leg and another between your elbows. This allows your body to maintain a safe position.
