1. Peel off the “eyes” of the potato to prevent any potatoes growing in the soil. Then, using your screwdriver, make a hole one to two inches deep into the end of the potato.

2. Prepare your rose stem. Cut one end at an angle and remove the thorns and some or all of the leaves. Scrape the cut end to help with root growth.

3. Insert the rose stem into the hole of the potato.

4. Prepare your water bottle by removing the label, cutting off the bottom, and removing the cap.

5. Take your plant pot and add soil until it is ¾ of the way full. Dig a hole deep enough so that the potato can be completely concealed and topped with two to three inches of soil. Add enough water so the soil is soaked, but not overflowing.

6. Place your water bottle over the plant and push it into the soil until it’s secure.

7. Place your pot somewhere away from direct sunlight, and you’re done!

Here is a video showing how it’s done:

Using a potato is an extremely helpful method when growing roses because it helps establish a strong root system and keep the stem moist. The water bottle helps to trap in the moisture from watering it. Make sure you never move or touch the stem to ensure a successful bloom! Within 45 days you should start to see results.
