How To Detox Your Lungs The Natural Way

Feb 12, 2018 by apost team

If there were a list of most well-kept organs, the lungs would be somewhere at the bottom, and on top of that, these are the organs that are most abused and ignored (only until there is a problem!)

Whatever is in the air, we breathe it in, and it goes straight to our lungs. Just imagine all the car fumes, smoke, diseases and other substances you are breathing in on a daily bases. It is disgusting when you think about it!

We have all seen our fair share of disturbing ads warning against smoking, but when was the last time you saw an ad on TV about air pollutants, greenhouse gases, car fumes etc?

A good example would be "coal." There is not one lousy ad about burning coal, and we have no idea why? Is it more essential to keep burning coal rather than warming people of the side effects? In the USA alone coal-burning is the largest source of carbon dioxide emissions. Which also happens to be the most harmful form of air pollution. And still, we have no idea.

However, there are definitely places in the world that have it much worse. For example, India has the most dangerous health issues because of air pollution. The only living thing which is our saving grace is the rainforests, national parks, etc. Which, are slowly being destroyed for the sake of future development. This is a growing problem (no pun intended) in fast developing countries.

Therefore, if we can't rely on world officials, governments, and other authorities to hold themselves accountable and make a change, we must preserve our health.

**Please note this not a medical article, if you are concerned with the condition of your lungs, please seek medical advice from your doctor. **

The five ways to naturally detox your lungs are listed below.

1. Quit Smoking

That's right. It had to be said, so let's get it out the way.

Obviously, the best way to protect your lungs is to refrain as much as possible of putting extra toxins into them. The ACS (American Cancer Society released a statement that said: "smoking is by far the leading cause of lung cancer."

The NHS (National Health Service) in the UK also stated: "non-smoking women who share their house with a smoking partner are 25% more likely to develop lung cancer than non-smoking women (with) a non-smoking partner."

Without stating the obvious, the danger is genuine. So think about this when you next think about lighting up a smoke!

2. Top Up Your Antioxidants

Here is another buzzword you've all been waiting for, diet!

That's right, a well-balanced diet which includes antioxidants is one of the best ways to detox the lungs (after of course number 1 on the list!) Antioxidants act as a protector of the lungs by fighting off harmful bacteria and radicals that harm your healthy cells. It is also known that if you consume plenty of antioxidants, you will slowly improve your "lung capability and improve the quality of your breathing."

Examples of suitable antioxidants can be blueberries, broccoli, fish, grapes, green tea, spinach and sweet potatoes. (Add them to your shopping list.)

3. Work Up A Sweat

Once again, another benefit is doing exercise. (I know you've heard it all before, but yes it matters!) Half an hour a day - 3 to 4 times a week should sort you out straight. Or if you are really ambitious, a 20-minute high intense training three times weekly will keep your lungs working!

No, you don't need to join a gym for this, but if you are really struggling to find time to do this, consider Tabata - a 4-minute high intense workout. You can do it! I believe in you!

4. Think About Your Environment

It will be hard to change your environment because of job or family home etc. But, consider what you can do to make the best of what you have.

#1 Keep your home and workplace well ventilated.

#2 Take extra care and wear safety equipment when necessary for example a dust mask or a respirator.

You have the right to your own health, so take this in mind next time your workplace expects you to do something without fully understanding the necessary safety precautions.

Get outdoors, I mean - into the nature! Take yourself away from the city hustle and bustle. This will do wonders for your spirit not just your health!

5. Deep Breath

Believe it or not, but most people just don't know how to breathe correctly. When you pay particular attention to your breathing, you will release that your breathing is somewhat irregular. This is natural, don't panic!

But, now you know why your trainer or yoga teacher is insisting you breathe deeply ALL the time. When you breathe deeply, you are expanding your lungs and reducing stress which leaves you feeling more energetic.

Another example is feeling tired in a stuffy room, open those windows do some deep inhaling and exhaling, and you'll feel much better! (This is more important when you're stuck in an office at work).

Move around, do exercise and go outside without smoking!
