House Cat Fends Off Three Coyotes In California Backyard

The old adage, fighting like cats and dogs was said for a reason, whether at home or in the wild, these two animals cannot seem to get along. Recently, a family captured their pet cat in a standoff with wild coyotes. The standoff wasn't a fair fight from the start though as there were three large, wild coyotes matched against a lone house cat.

The cat owners caught the interesting and impressive standoff one night when their cat was outside for its daily exploring and walk. They had no clue what was going on outside until they caught sight of a tail through the windows that didn't belong to their feline. Heading over to check, the owners spotted several coyotes in the backyard, and their lone cat fending off the entire pack with ease.

In the video you can see the pack of coyotes separating out amongst themselves in an attempt to surround and overwhelm Max the cat. Max adeptly keeps the pack together, swiping at them from the sides in order to push them in front and away from him. One coyote in particular is deliberately trying to push behind Max, but again and again the cat rebuffs his attempts.

Two coyotes seem to have enough at one point and are almost run off entirely by Max, but come back to continue approaching him. According to the owners in the video's description, they were watching TV and caught sight of a moving tail through their door.

Max's owners then went outside in defense of their feline friend and lunged at the coyotes, reportedly scaring them off. It seems like Max had help in the end but the brave kitty probably would have been just fine protecting himself.

While this interaction ended well, it is important to safeguard your pets from wildlife that can get into your yard or roams near the neighborhood.
