Many people have lengthy bucket lists of things they want to accomplish before they pass away, but Carol’s wish was surprisingly simple.

Carol was a patient at Groves Community Hospice in Kansas, and she had loved cats throughout her life. Living in hospice care, Carol did not get to snuggle with feline companions anymore, and this is the only thing she wanted to do.

According to the Kansas City Star, Orderlies at Groves Community Hospice do their best to ensure that their patients are as comfortable as possible, and they were surprised to hear how simple Carol’s request was. They contacted the Great Plains SPCA to discuss their need for several kittens, and the SPCA staff was happy to oblige.

When the SPCA staff members arrived, they brought a large basket that was filled with many cute kittens. Carol had a huge smile on her face while she cradled kittens in her arms and watched others frolic on her lap and nearby. This was exactly what she needed to brighten her day and to warm her heart.

Carol’s experience with the kittens is only one of many. Both dogs and cats have been used to soothe ailing or depressed patients for years.

Pets radiate pure love and provide people with the extra affection that they need. Many care facilities are following the path that Groves Community Hospice took and have already reached out to their local SPCA.
