Horse Gives Birth To Supremely Special Pair Of Twins

Apr 20, 2020 by apost team

Multiple births among animals, like cats having a litter of kittens, is quite common. But among horses, this is simply not the case. A female horse is not really built to handle more than one foal at a time, and even rarer are twins. So in this 2014 story, of an extremely rare pair of twin foals, you can see that nature somehow always has ways of surprising us!

The horses in this story are known as Friesians, a beautiful breed from the Netherlands that are occasionally known as Belgian Blacks. They were once highly sought-after war horses for their powerful build and ability to carry a knight in full armor. These days, Friesians are popular in dressage events for their beauty and poise and high level of trainability.

That said, it's extremely rare for even such a powerful and large draft horse to be carrying more than one foal, let alone twins and healthy ones at that! In the video, you'll have the chance to meet Lisa and Fien, 4-day olds still a little shaky on their legs, keeping up with and nursing from their mother.

What you'll also have the chance to see is a very young equestrian accompanying these adorable foals and their mom. This little girl clearly knows her way around horses, as is demonstrated by the way she approaches the animals. She comes up in front and is greeting by sniffing from the mother to be certain the little visitor is all right. And that's perfectly fine with the foals, as they seem happy to receive attention from the little girl.

Baby Friesians are known to be scruffier, but they soon develop into the adult versions of their famous breed! They are only four days old and they are already able to chase after mom spryly, play around and both frolic in and try to sample the grass. Friesians develop long, usually black and silky coats as they grow, contributing to their reputation as some of the most beautiful horses on earth. And I think you'll agree the babies are just as gorgeous.

What did you think of these horses? It's hard to get over how precious these adorable "giants" are. We’d love to hear what you think. Please spread the joy of this family to all your friends on social media, And don’t neglect to tell us your thoughts in the comment section below.
