Honest Woman Down On Her Luck Found $15,000 While Walking & Got A Brand New Car For Returning The Money

Money can be tempting – especially to those in dire need of them. In fact, the chances of getting back one’s money after losing it on the streets are slim, especially if the person who finds it badly needs the money. But one person proved yet again that there is still good in the world after choosing to return to the money she found – even if she herself needed it.

Diane Gordon has a job at a supermarket called VC Fresh Marketplace which can be found in a town in Michigan. But her job isn’t easy as has to endure more than two miles of travel every day to get to work.

“Two point seven (miles) to be exact,” she told Fox 2 Detroit in an interview.

If you ask Gordon why she knows the exact distance between home and her work, it’s because she has been traversing that route by foot for over a year after her car broke down in February 2022.

While taking her usual route in January 2023, what she thought was an ordinary day changed her life after she stopped at a gas station to grab some snacks. Before she could set foot inside the store, she found something that left her completely stunned.

Gordon recalled that she saw a plastic bag full of money. As if the money found on one side wasn’t enough to surprise her, she found out that there was an even bigger sum of money after flipping it to the other side.

“I looked down on the ground and found a plastic bag with a large sum of money in it,” she said. “When you turned it over there was even more money.”

She knew it wasn’t right for her to keep the money because it did not belong to her.

“This doesn’t belong to me, I need to call a police officer,” Gordon shared.

Meanwhile, one of the police officers at White Lake, Lt. Matthew Ivory, attested to the kind of honesty Gordon has shown through it all.

“It never really crossed her mind to do anything other than turn it over,” Ivory said.

It was after the police conducted a thorough investigation that they found out that the money belonged to some newlyweds.

Ivory recalled what they found inside the bag, saying there were cards and gifts from the wedding that also took place that day. Ivory said the money amounted to $14,780 worth of cash.

Thankfully, they tracked down the couple and returned the money to them.

Ivory then noted how Gordon could have used the money, saying: “Especially under the idea that she doesn’t have transportation.”

Then again, Gordon opted not to keep the money and chose to surrender it to authorities instead.

Despite the heroic act that she did, Gordon remained humble and said she believed she “didn’t do anything special.”

As far as Gordon was concerned, she only did what she thought was right. “I was taught if it doesn’t belong to you, you don’t keep it,” Gordon told WXYZ.

One of the police officers’ wives decided to set up a GoFundMe for Gordon – and just after a few weeks, they were able to raise more than $80,000 dollars for her.

In February 2023, Gordon got a new Jeep Compass thanks to the money raised from GoFundMe!

“I am floored. I am having a hard time keeping it in. I am just so excited,” Gordon said.

Indeed, Gordon is a symbol of integrity and selflessness – and she got what she rightfully deserved!
