Homeless Man Returns $10k Check To Woman, So She Offers Him A Free Home

This homeless man found $10,000 and returned it to the owner. His good deed is only half the story though!

The world is a random place and often more unbelievable than fiction. We can always decide whether to do what's right, or be selfish. It's easy for us to assume that we would choose the less selfish option. This man took the opportunity of a lifetime to follow his morals.

According to NBC News, Elmer Alvarez found a check with $10,000 written in the margins last November. He was wandering the streets homeless on Church Street in New Haven, Connecticut. It was paid to the order of Roberta Hoskie. She is a local real estate business owner in the city called Outreach Realty Services. Alvarez was able to get in contact with Hoskie after his friend was able to research her information online.

Alvarez eagerly met with Hoskie to return the check. Hoskie had more than just a warm thanks planned for the hero that was down on his luck. She confided in Alvarez her own problems she faced as a teenager. Hoskie was once homeless herself, which encouraged and lead her towards her life as a successful business owner today.

She rewarded him with free admission to her real estate training school and a generous undisclosed cash reward.

Hoskie met with Alvarez yet again at the Greater New Haven Chamber Of Commerce over a Facebook Live Stream. She announced that he wouldn't have to worry about sleeping in the cold again because her company was going to provide housing for him at no cost. Additionally, she also intends to pay for an English language course for Alvarez to become more in-depth at speaking his second language. He addressed the audience saying that he had no intention or hope of receiving anything in return for his good deed. He also exclaimed that he was going to give his best shot at the bright future that's been put in front of him.

The homeless man broke down into tears as he was awarded. He said, “There’s always angels out here in heaven and earth.”
