'Home Alone' Cast Is Planning A 'Reunion' 31 Years After Original Christmas Film

It’s hard to believe that it’s already been more than 30 years since “Home Alone” was released. The beloved comedy film was first released in 1990, directed by Chris Columbus and written by John Hughes. It has since gone on to become one of the most adored films of all time and is still known as not only a classic comedy but a great film to watch during the holiday season.

With stars like Macaulay Culkin, Joe Pesci, Daniel Stern, Devin Ratray, John Heard, and Catherine O’Hara, it’s easy to see why “Home Alone” went on to be adapted into a few sequels and has continued to live on in fans’ hearts. The film follows the story of Kevin McCallister, played by Culkin, who defends his home in Chicago from burglars after his family accidentally leaves him behind on their vacation to Paris. Several antics and shenanigans ensue, culminating into a hilarious plot.

“Home Alone 2: Los in New York” was released just two years after the first film, following a similar plot to the first film as well. The movie also starred many of the same cast members and characters. However, the third installment in the franchise departed from the original lineup and featured a brand new cast and plotline.

Still, the franchise has been held near and dear to many fans’ hearts. Although the main cast did not all come together for the remake of “Home Alone” in 2021, they have been planning to all meet up together again for an epic reunion 31 years after the first film came out.

On Dec. 7, 2021, “Home Alone” actor Ratray revealed that the ensemble cast from the first film in the franchise are all currently planning on finally getting together once again for an upcoming virtual reunion, according to the Daily Mail. The former child star was best known for his role as Buzz, Kevin’s older brother, in both “Home Alone” and “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.”

“Home Alone” was released in November 1990, just in time for the holiday season for friends and families to go out to the movies and watch a hilarious comedy together. A couple of years later, the second film in the series was released and starred the same beloved cast composed of CulkinPesciSternHeard, and O’Hara. However, the remaining films in the series did not feature all of the same iconic cast members.

While the original cast may not have kept up with each other consistently over the past 31 years, they have recently been working hard at trying to band together again and reconnect with each other. “They have been planning a reunion online and I just recently, as in a couple of days ago, got their messenger chat thread,” Ratray revealed.

He explained that he has been trying to keep up with many of his former co-workers and friends, including Jed CohenDiana ReinTerrie SnellAngela Goethals, and Hillary Wolf. “The family is moving on their own accord to get together, so who knows what’s going to happen in the future,” Ratray said.

A Treat For The Fans

While many of the “Home Alone” alums have had pretty successful careers, it’s safe to say that Culkin was the main star of the film and the one person who movie-watchers really remember the most. Despite being such an incredible child star, Culkin decided to take a bit of a backseat from fame as he got older but has recently been more active and engaging with the entertainment industry again.

“Macaulay is so much more open and relaxed and, I should say, more of a public figure,” Ratray said about his on-screen brother. “He has been reclusive as anyone would be, in his situation, and I’m glad that he is more of a public figure now and open.” He added that Culkin has had a “very consistent and respectful career” and has “always been a real actor.”

Culkin wasn’t the only former castmate that Ratray raved about, and he also had nothing but kind words to say about O’Hara, who played his on-screen mom. “She was so generous,” Ratray said. “To her, we weren’t children – we were actors. She was there for us every take, giving everything that she would do for own close-ups.”

While there is currently no set date for the virtual “Home Alone” reunion, fans of the film can still get in the holiday spirit and relive some of their favorite memories from the first film by visiting the house in Winnetka Illinois. According to the Daily Mail, the home is available to rent for $25 per night, with Ratray serving as the host.
