Hollywood Pair Has Passed All Relationship Tests

These days, marriages don't seem to last very long. This is especially true in terms of high-profile or celebrity unions. Gerald McRaney and Delta Burke are a shining exception to this rule. This Hollywood couple has been married for nearly three decades and their bond couldn't be stronger. Gerald is 71 and Delta is 62.

In 2017, Gerald received the Emmy for Best Drama Guest Actor. The award was provided for his role as Dr. K. on the hit-show This Is Us.

The seasoned actor mentioned his wife during the acceptance speech and told the entire world how much he loved her.

During the awards ceremony, Gerald said that he had the "finest woman" and her treasured love.

In 1987, the celebrity couple made their first debut together on the Red Carpet. Burke met her husband on his detective show called Simon and Simon. At the time, she was working on a popular sitcom called Designing Women. After a few chance encounters, the two began to date. The romance of a lifetime quickly followed.

Speaking to People, the couple admitted they were committed to one another right from the get-go. 

“He asked me to marry him on the second date, so we were pretty committed!” Burke said.

“I wasn’t going to let her get away,” McRaney added. “I already had competition. There were people asking her out on dates, and I was going to move in right away.”

Despite many warnings from his friends about marrying an actress, McRaney knew that Delta would understand his life better than anyone else. He didn't want to be with someone who didn't understand the hectic life of a successful actor. 

"... People always said to me, ‘You never want to marry an actress.’ Why not? They’re the only people who understand this insanity. And she does. If I’m on location, and I don’t call her until 2 o’clock in the morning, no big deal," McRaney said.

Two years after Gerald popped the question, the couple had a beautiful wedding ceremony. Through these three decades of their marriage, the couple has faced many obstacles and challenges.

Delta suffered from depression, type 2 diabetes, and weight issues. Her husband stuck through it all to take care of his beloved wife.

"He's been great," Burke told EatingWell ."It didn't matter to him how fat I got. He reminds me what I should be doing or shouldn't be eating. He likes to give me my shots and says it makes him feel like he's taking care of me."

Delta showed Gerald her support in return by becoming his biggest fan. She had wanted Gerald to receive an Emmy for many years prior. She knew that her husband's talents would be recognized at some point.

“At the end of a day’s work, I get to come home to her – that’s the fun,” McRaney told People. “And we get each other,” his wife added. “As nutty as we both are, we get each other.”

“We did a renewal of our vows once, and one of the things that Delta wrote into the vows was that we embrace each other’s insanity,” she revealed. “Not just accept it – embrace it.”

When the busy couple isn't traveling or working, they are living in New Orleans. This southern city is a great respite from the hustle and bustle of L.A. and New York.

Delta is currently working as a designer. She started and currently runs Delta Burke Design located in New York City, where she designs clothes for women of "real sizes" in their mid-30s. She also recently made an appearance of the new Designing Women show.
