As a parent who began her motherhood journey at a later age, TV anchor Hoda Kotb redirected her priorities and found a balance between work and parenthood. The celebrity mom spends quality time with her daughters while learning the rudiments of motherhood. During a June 2023 interview with reality star Bethenny Frankel, Kotb opened up about motherhood and some of the “anxiety” she experienced concerning maternity at her age.

Kotb, a seasoned TV anchor with close to four decades of experience, has two daughters, Hope Catherine and Haley Joy, both in their formative years. In 2017, the Today star made headlines after she welcomed her first child via adoption.

At the time, Kotb shared her big news through a call she gave to her colleagues during a segment on Today. Per CNN, the TV star stated during the call, “I do have something to tell you, but you know what, how about this, instead of telling you, I’m going to show you something.” The screen shifted to show an image of her holding a baby as she continued her announcement.

Kotb excitedly added: “That little girl, Haley Joy – I’m crying – is my daughter… She’s a Valentine’s baby. She’s a little nugget. She is the love of my life.” The star was 52 when she welcomed her first child with her ex-partner Joel Schiffman

The “Making Spaces With Hoda Kotb” host became a second-time mother two years later in 2019. She introduced her second daughter, Hope, to the world in the same fashion she did the first time. However, Kotb experienced a heartbreaking moment when her engagement with her Schiffman was called off. Since then, the two have ventured into an incredible dynamic that seemed to be going well for both of them.

Kotb is a first-generation American broadcaster and TV personality. While her parents immigrated to the United States from Egypt, Kotb was born in Norman, Oklahoma, on Aug. 9, 1964. After rising to stardom on the NBC morning news show TODAY, Kotb has become a household name.

Aside from being a renowned broadcaster, Kotb is raising her family as a now-single mother. Kotb’s journey to motherhood hasn’t been an easy one. After being diagnosed with cancer in 2007, the disease left her unable to have children of her own. Yet she still dreamed of being a parent one day.

While battling cancer, Kotb split up with her then-husband Burzis Kanga in 2008 after being married to him for three years. In the years following, Kotb wanted to be a mother but didn’t know how her dream would come about in her situation. Not until she talked about it with her New York financier Joel Schiffman, whom she had been seeing since 2013.

In November 2019, she announced on TODAY that she and Schiffman were engaged.

“I have to tell you something that a friend of mine, a friend of ours, asked me to let you guys in on a secret,” Kotb told the show happily, shocking her co-anchors. “I’ll give you her initials. Her initials are Hoda Kotb, and she’s engaged.”

Recalling the special day, Kotb said that they had a little dinner on the beach, and Schiffman then knelt on one knee. They then planned a destination wedding in November 2020, but sadly, the pandemic happened and derailed their dream day.

Since their dream wedding was foiled, Kotb planned to have it in New York so that it would be more accessible to many. However, everyone was surprised when Kotb revealed that she and Schiffman had separated in 2022.

During this saddening period of her life, Kotb sought joy from her two adopted children – Hayley Joy and Hope.

Kotb adopted Haley Joy in 2017, days after she was born.

She is the love of my life.”

Everyone in the TV studio where Kotb shared her adoption story was in tears. She shared that she then felt full and fulfilled with Haley and Schiffman and their lives together.

The “Making Spaces With Hoda Kotb” host became a second-time mother two years later in 2019. She introduced her second daughter, Hope, to the world in the same fashion she did the first time. Kotb called into a Tuesday episode of Today to share news of her second bundle of joy.

The elated mother-of-two did not hold back on her joy as she gushed over how her first child was already playing the big sister role. The TV personality noted that while she fed Hope that morning, Haley tried giving her raspberries. She sweetly added that the little girl fawned over her sister and was already proud of her new role.

As Kotb marvels at the wonders of motherhood, she is not alone in the deed of raising her children. In fact, she and Schiffman, despite being separated already, had agreed to co-parent the children.

“Joel and I have had a lot of prayerful and meaningful conversations over the holidays and we decided that we’re better as friends and parents than we are as an engaged couple, so we decided we are going to start this new year ... on our new path as loving parents to our adorable, delightful children, and as friends,” Kotb said in a statement

Kotb and Schiffman are both navigating the complex dynamics of co-parenting, describing that they “have it down” already.

“He’ll have a Saturday, and I’ll do the Sunday. We switch each week. He’ll take the girls and do some fun things, and I’ll take some quiet time. It’s a healthy mix, and the kids love it. He’s a great dad,” Kotb told People Magazine in an interview.

She also raved about how open they are to changes along the way.

“‘Does that work for you?’ ‘Do you need me to change that?’ We’re very open about fixing things so that everybody’s needs are being met,” Kotb told the magazine. “He’s a great dad — but I also know I’m on the right road.”

Kotb has been raising Hayley and Hope in her simple yet stunning house painted in white interior – making it very vibrant with their colorful lives and dynamic personalities.

As shown on her Instagram photos, Kotb showcased her beautiful open-type floor plan home that had hosted plenty of gatherings already. Her home is clad with white and beige-colored pieces of furniture that mirror her sophistication and elegance as a seasoned broadcaster – making it a perfect abode for them.
