Hillary Clinton recently defended Meghan Markle over the bullying she has been receiving in the British tabloids.

While on a book tour for “The Book of Gutsy Women,” she spoke to The Sunday Times along with her daughter Chelsea, as per People. The two were asked about the recent lawsuit that Prince Harry has brought to the British media regarding his wife.

“I do want to say that the way she’s been treated is inexplicable,” said the former first lady, 71. “If the explanation is that she’s biracial, then shame on everybody.”

Hillary additionally noted that she did believe race played a part.

Hillary’s daughter Chelsea, 39, also weighed in on the situation. She believes that Meghan’s work that came before her life as a royal could be part of the reason why tabloids are so hard on her.

“She proudly had a career first and has a voice that she thankfully continues to use,” Chelsea said. “Anyone who has the temerity to break the mold of what has previously been established and expected often, unfortunately, receives criticism and bile that I don’t understand. We’ve seen this pattern repeatedly.”

Chelsea noted that she doesn’t know the Duchess but still respects her, adding that she is “so grateful that she persists, and is unbowed, and is doing work she feels called to do. And isn’t willing to be bullied.”

At the beginning of October, Prince Harry released a statement referring to the British tabloids waging “a ruthless campaign that has escalated over the past year” against his wife.

He stated that he would be taking legal action against the Mail on Sunday because his “deepest fear is history repeating itself.”
