Hilary Swank has a career that not just women, but most Hollywood actors, would envy. Her long list of accomplishments includes upwards of 53 acting credits to her name, 17 producer credits and two Academy Awards. While Swank worked hard to become one of the most recognizable faces in the entertainment industry, she had to make some sacrifices along the way. One of them included delaying her dream of becoming a mother. However, she said the stars have finally aligned and she is more than ready to step into her latest and most important role – motherhood.

Born on July 30, 1974, in Lincoln, Nebraska, Swank was hit by the acting bug early in life. After expressing her intention to become an actress to her mother, they moved to Los Angeles when she was 15. She made her acting debut in the 1992 cult hit “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” which spawned the immensely popular series of the same name in 1997 starring Sarah Michelle Gellar. She also starred in “The Next Karate Kid” and had a recurring part in the teen series “Beverly Hills, 90210.”

But it was her starring role in 1999’s “Boys Don’t Cry” that propelled her into worldwide fame. In the film based on a true story, she played Brandon Teena, a transgender man who moves to Falls City, Nebraska, and falls victim to a hate crime committed by two male acquaintances. Her emphatic and powerful performance won her an Oscar and lead to more prominent roles in major movies. One of these was Clint Eastwood's 2004 movie “Million Dollar Baby,” for which Swank would win her second Best Actress Academy Award.

Focusing on her career paid off for Swank but despite her successes, there were milestones she wanted to hit in her personal life.

Swank married Chad Lowe, the brother of actor Rob Lowe, in 1997 but they divorced in 2007. In 2018, Swank tied the knot with social venture entrepreneur Philip Schneider. Swank told Vogue of her Redwoods wedding: “I was overwhelmed with such gratitude and thanks to be marrying the man of my dreams and to see all the people we love together in the middle of such a profound setting. It was truly a dream come true.”

On Oct. 5, 2022, Swank announced through a post on her Instagram account that she was pregnant. She also revealed she was carrying twins, writing a caption that read “Coming soon…DOUBLE feature!” alongside a picture of her holding her stomach.

In an interview with Extra’s Jenn Lahmers, Swank revealed motherhood was “just something I had thought about even as a young girl.” She added, “It’s nice to be here and be pregnant.”

Swank also touched on how she waited until the right time to start this new chapter in her life. She said: “I was having a career and not having the right relationship until … four years ago, and all the elements needed to come together and be right.”

She also said on Good Morning America that she was excited about having twins.

“This is something that I've been wanting for a long time and my next thing is I'm gonna be a mom,” Swank said. “And not just of one, but of two. I can’t believe it.”

The babies are due in April 2023, an auspicious month for Swank, who revealed what it was like to prepare for being a first-time mom at the age of 48.

However, Swank told Extra it wasn’t smooth sailing early in her pregnancy, as she noted: “I was having some bouts of morning sickness for a while there. My friends tell me when you have double, it doubles the hormones, double the sickness, double the everything.” However, she added she was “feeling better.”

She also told Good Morning America she was prepared for some rough days ahead. Swank also shared that the babies are due on April 16, which she considered a blessing as it is the same day as the birthday of her father, who passed in October 2021.

“It’s beautiful. It’s all aligning, and my dad, he was one of my favorite people in the world, so it is kind of like … this tribute of life with them being born on this birthday.”

Swank added that her father would have been over the moon for her were he alive to see her today. She said: “He would be happy, elated for me. He just wanted me to have everything I wanted in my life, so I know it would be something that would bring him a lot of joy to see me in so much joy.”

It’s clear the actress is thrilled about becoming a mom. In an appearance on "Live with Kelly and Ryan," Swank revealed twins run in both her and her husband’s families. She said she was also “so excited” for the next phase of her life journey.

“It’s such a blessing. It’s a total miracle. It’s unbelievable,” she enthused.
